I like the EH EL34. Quite similar to Siemens, though the latter seem to provide a bit more output. I'll definitely pick up some EH 6CA7s to see how they run. I used to nab GE and Slyvania's one or two at a time on eBay several years ago. Prices were lower that way, and I figure with 20 or 30 of them about I could match pairs and maybe a quad or two.

I totally withdraw my previous statement about the JJ 6CA7..
I don't know, maybe my tastes have changed or have the right tube combination.. Right now I have the JJ 6Ca7's with some Wurlitzer labeled RCA long grey plates that test NOS. I think the sound is bigger yet more articulate and solid. The highs are a bit more extended, but I wouldn't say it's like a 6L6 because there's no kink to the response, and the lowend is filled out.
Now I'm interested in othe 6CA7's.
