 Do you choose red or blue lollipop? :)

I have so many other homebrew amps I'd grab before my TW clones, nothing like a Marshall type 50w combo punching tone in your face.

They look good, but can they fight? Only V1 can answer that question IMO.

What does each 12ax7 slot do for the amp/sound?

Please read up on tube selection for the express and Liverpool. That tall plate should not go in v1. The search function is a great way to find information on this forum. And since these amps are so sensitive, they will show nuances between tubes, even between tubes that look the same. It is impossible to see via the internet if a tube is low gain, or microphonic, or imbalanced, or has filament hum, or has excessive grid DC leakage. I would like to suggest to read and roll tubes till it is good. Have fun!!

Why am I just finding this out now? I thought you could find out everything related to tube amps on the internet.

Heck I've had tall plate Sylvania 12AX7s in all three positions in my '89 Express for a years and year. The tube in the pic above on the right appears to possibly be a Sylvania. No more noise issues than other tubes IMHO, but it takes a bit of searching to find ones without microphonics though you can keep the amp off the cab to reduce the issues there.

Groove Tube EL34M "mullard clones" in my original '89 and two clones, though I sometimes swap out the EL34Ms in my '89 for Siemens. Preamp tubes all being Sylvania (or Baldwin labled organ pulls) long plate 12AX7s.

That said, I currently have NOS Siemens in my '85 which is seeing most of the recording session use these days. My '85 also has an assortment of NOS preamp tubes that were in it when I got it (all 12AX7) and I like it just the way it is so I haven't touched them!

That's cool you're still running those EL34Ms. Love those older clips where you're using them. And it's very interesting about the Baldwin pulls. I have an early sixties Orgasonic that I pulled something like seventy 12AX7s and a power section consisting of a pair of 6L6GC RCA Blackplates and a 5U4GB. I have a little box full of all of them and use them often. I'm curious if mine are Sylvanias too.

I have had microphone issues with the tall plate 12AX7 tubes, more so than with the short plates. Some brands seem to be fine though. The key thing is to try different things.

I played the amp today and something weird happend. At 1/2 volume, it started to cut out. I thought it was the guitar or cable or cab but swapped all that out and the same thing. What I tried:

-Tubes are new, Sovtek EL84M and JJ 12ax7 with a balanced V3.
-I tried new cable
-New guitar
-new cab
-new speaker cable
-swapped 12ax7s
-swapped power tubes
-back to the new tubes

All the same thing. What could this be?

Emailed mark and he said just send it to him and it will all be fixed. Great customer service.... He said it might be a loose tube socket.
