Allyn,

Great work on that 100W Express. I checked out the link: the clip posted sound *huge*; awesome guitar tone. Nice and heavy. Can you comment if that clip features the amp you built? Also, do you know what speakers and cabinet size it is being used with?

Thanks,
Dave

Mark, I didn't know this was a rack mount amp.
So the tubes will be laid down?

Got any gut shots?

Tom, that is a Marshall style chassis from Turretboards.com that measures 20x8x2 and will have a Komet style head cab but I will use that bedliner stuff for a durable road worthy finish and handle on top.

I have not got my trannies yet so no holes drilled yet. Still need my 25w resistors to get started drilling and turreting my cap board but the other two boards are done but not installed in the chassis until I have everything so I can space things properly. There is a lot of room in this chassis so that will not be a problem. Once I get more done I will post gut shots.

Sorry I'm an idiot.

I thought that was the complete amp, you just haven't drilled or punched the tube socket holes yet.....

The parts arrived today so I did some more work on the boards.

Don't look to close I am not a perfectionist with bends. But the solder is solid.

I am waiting for transformers to go to production but finished up the rear plate hole drilling. Maybe going slow is a good thing.

Looking good Mark.

I wonder how the pro builders bend there leads so there is no tool marking and they are straight as an arrow?

Mine certainly aren't..... :(

Tom your way too kind, its alright to give constructive critism I need some.

They use that plastic 1, 2, 3 watt bender and if I had used eyelets instead of turrets that would have prevented all that bending from me wrapping the leads around the turrets. I could have used a little bit wider board as well. In other words the experienced builders like Allyn think there layout and components through. Not a rushed inexperienced job like mine. After the fact I know what I would have done different it all shows up on film.

Between working with veterans claims, raising kids, raising grand kids, getting ready for son's wedding and gigging I tend to rush way too much and my work shows it. But I will be sturdy with good solder joints.

Should be fun anyway you look at it.

For the OT, what spec did you give Pacific to get it "beefed up"? The 80W figure, or a DC rating per side?

BTW, did Ken's line card include the steel type (M27, M19/26)?

Note, these are specific questions, LOL.

OK the lastest info for my Express build.

Edcor is building me a 100 watt 3.3k primary OT, tranny number is CXPP100-MS-3.3K and I requested no UL taps. I have asked to start a line card under Mark Fowler incase anyone else wants one. I plan to have engineering change the PT to 300-0-300/6.3 10A/no bias tap for future builds as well. The PT I have coming is 315-0-315/6.3v 10A.

Since people have said that the Express uses a 6.6k with two EL34s, so with four EL34s cut that in half and use 3.3k like Allyn did.

Just doesn't add up to me but I am no wizard at this stuff either so I will catch on someday. I will give it a try with Allyn's specs he knows more than I do.

OK, it's late (for me)... Why no bias tap? Are you going cathode bias?

I see bias test points on the back panel so I'm thinking that's not the case. What am I missing (besides sleep)?
