Re: 2w Sub Miniature Express
Received my kit today. Dana is the best!!! Quality of the PCB, Chassis and all products were amazing. Best of all everything is clearly separated, packed and shipped.... in double time. Way to go Dana! Thank you very much.

Hi Dana, I e-mailed you from your website, and after reading some of this post I can see why it may take a little time for you to respond. But if my note got snagged by a spam filter or something, please let me know how to order your products. Thanks, Scott.
instructions
Is there a link for the instructions yet? Thanks
Re: 2w Sub Miniature Express
Its alive!!! First time builder here and haven't touched a soldering iron since my teens when I built few simple projects. So could barely tell a diode from a cap but pulled through it thanks to Dana's excellent instructions & support. Kit goes together very nicely. I have couple small issues but I'm sure I'll manage to sort them out. Oh I almost forgot. Its a great experience playing through this amplifier. My first time with a TW lineage amplifier and now I understand what its all about. Anyways, enough of me blabbering.
Thank you Dana!

Ok. Me again. I have a quick question. When I first fired her up there was some noise. It was increasing as I cranked up power & volume. Also Treble beyond 3PM position seemed to contribute a lot. Nothing to be overly concerned about but it was there. I played and played for hours. I also left the amp on for about 12 hours for burn-in. Now the noise almost all but gone. Is this normal? Not that I'm complaining I'm just curious. How can this be? Its wonderful now. Thanks for any insight you might be able to share.

I am not sure what your noise sounded like but I don't think it is normal. Interesting that it went away. I have built about a dozen of these and haven't really had any problems with noises to speak of. Great looking pics and congrats on your first build.MCK wrote:Ok. Me again. I have a quick question. Simply put, it has been completely nuts around here for the last few weeks. I am trying to keep up the best I can but to be honest with everyone I am seriously thinking of dropping the kits. It's just too time consuming to inventory and bag all the parts. I can actually build a completed amp faster than I can count and bag all of the parts for a kit.

I have been trying to set up a FTP download on my website and am having trouble with the security on the FTP folder. At present I am emailing the manual to anyone who bought a kit. Ron Worly was good enough to proof the manual and reduce it in size from 16 meg down to about 4 meg in PDF format. (Thanks Ron!!! Great Job!!) If I haven't already sent it to you just shoot me a PM with your email address and I will get it right out to you.
Thanks so much for everyone's support and patience.
Re: 2w Sub Miniature Express
Hi Dana,
It was a cyclic noise that seemed to be aggravated by my hands proximity to the tubes. Now its gone. Perhaps it was caused by other things like interference from my PC or something. Important thing is that its gone. The amplifier sounds way beyond my expectation. Kept playing for hours. I'm so happy. Thanks once again.
PS. I can host the instructions for you until you figure it out on your FTP if you like. Please let me know.

Kerem

Lil' Devil via UPS to UK
just a quick note to say how amazed I am that my amp made it from Dana to my office at Leeds in the UK in TWO days. By UPS !!
Not to set anyone's expectations too high, of course, because it could have been just a fluke. But if you are in the UK and were wondering about buying one, I can say it's been the easiest transatlantic transaction I've ever done.
Cheers

It took me longer to get Gary the tracking number than it did for UPS to deliver the amp

The noise you mention in regards to having your hands close to the tubes is pretty normal for ANY tube amp that is not shielded in a cab. Your body acts like a big antenna and picks up noise from things in the room like flouresent lights, cell phones, computers, etc and as you move you hands close to a preamp tube that is setup for hi gain you will hear noise. If you ground your hand on the chassis you should hear the noise reduced.

UR12 wrote:That makes sense. I thought this was a builtin feature to remind me to keep my hands away from the live amp! Just joking ofcourse but definitely is a good reminder. Anyways, no noise, super sound, can't have enough of it. Now starting the 2nd build and planning my cab. More later. I think this amp has all the potential to become king of hill among all < 5W tube amps out there.gary wrote: Kerem

Li'l Devil speaker and cab preferences
The only 8ohm speaker I've got at the moment is a Celestion Vintage 30 in a combo cab; I've spliced a socket and plug into the combo's speaker wiring so I can connect the amp.
For all you folks who have had the chance to experiment, what speaker and cab options can you recommend for the Li'l Devil ?
I understand that a closed back cab is the default position.
Thanks for any advice.

Re: 2w Sub Miniature Express
Very interesting project. I'm a bit late to the game. Where are the clips? I've searched & no can find!

This will probably get confusing but I have tried 4 x 12 cabs with Sammi 300b50s and Celestion Greenbacks and it sounds the best through these cabs. I also tried it through a 4 x 12 cab with V30s and I don't know what it is I just don't seem to care for Vintage 30s no matter what I plug into them. I have also tried it through a 2 x 12 closed cab loaded with the same Sammis and it was much the same as the 4x12. I didn't like it through the open back 2 x 12 or 1x12 with Sammis or the V30s. I actually built a little 1x12 open back combo out of one of the amps and it just doesn't have the low end. I am working on a ported 1 x 12 cab to go with the head so we will see how that turns out. I tried it with some of the new Fanes at the NY amp show and it was awesome through the 103db 150 watt ax 12s. I plan on scoreing one of those for my ported 1x12 cab. The more efficient the speaker the louder and more articulate the amp will sound. Like Gary, I would love to hear what some of you other guys are playing their Lil Devils through.

I do hope to get some better clips made soon. It has just been hard for me to find the extra time to take it to a friend for a recording session. Or maybe one of the guys who have bought the kit or amp will post one
