Calling all Asteroid builders....
I am starting to recieve parts for my Asteroid K60 build and I am asking anyone that has built a K60 to ring in and comment on their experiences with building this amp. Any advice and comments are welcome and I hope to hear from as many of you guys as possible. I have already had some help from a couple of guys here. I will also try to keep everyone informed on my progress as well.
Thanks in advance,
Wally

I've built two of these. they are much easier to build than the express. I used the layout and pics of a real komet and never had any problem except upping the bias resistor to 10k

Re: Calling all Asteroid builders....
I'm still in the throws of building mine.
Little things like the SS stand-offs have made me lose focus.
I couldn't get the board heights verified or the size thread
used for the stand-off screws. There's height limit to the stand-offs
with internal #6-32 thread spacing the dealers sell and 1-1/8" was on no one's list. When I decided to stack an 1/8" spacer on the 1" piece,
I happened onto an 8'-0" length of internally threaded SS rod that
I could now cut into correct sizes. Today I'll go buy the Dremel cut-off
wheels to finish this amp.
It's been an expensive mutha to build maintaining the parts quality
seen in the originaals.

Re: Calling all Asteroid builders....
I got my kit from Barry Witt and he painted the chassis, assembled all the parts and threw in a whole bunch of extra parts. One heck of a nice guy sorry he left ampgarage for a while. I also got a CD with all the data I need. I have to say this amp is no where near easier than build any of the Trainwrecks. How do you figure that. I haven't even begun to figure out the coiled wire. I have been so busy with my other builds that this one is still sitting untouched. Having the cab built by Larry (distortion) right now. Heck I should of had Barry finish the rest of the build.
I enjoy building amps just this one is not as familiar to me.

Does any one have an extra set of trannys for sale for this amp. Just asking before I try to source mine from Heyboer in case someone wants to sell a set.

Sure, what would you like to know about?
Be advised, I have a few unanswered questions regarding this amp's construction.
Is Heyboer making your XFMRs?

Noel,
I will be using the Heyboer trannys. I have not ordered them yet, but I do have the info on them. Do you need that info?

I built an Asteroid, but used an Express OT. What are the proper specs?

Re: Calling all Asteroid builders....
I'm just bumping this thread since you other Asterhoid builders aren't really
chirping about your builds.
I'm also trying to make this P & S camera's learning curve a little flatter.

Re: Calling all Asteroid builders....
here's three big pics. they have been posted before. http://www.hf.ntnu.no/hf/filosofi/Ansat ... dal/komet1

I've since changed the 100uf screen caps to two atom 80uf caps. I recommend sylvania 6ca7s and a mullard gz34 for the komet 60. also I like a cv4024 in v3, a rtf ecc83 in v2 and a tungsram ecc83 in v1. the amp sounds absolutely killer

Re: Calling all Asteroid builders....
I am done but need to wait until the snow storm blows over to get the 3 amp and 3/4 amp fuses. I also need to get another set of tubes but I will borrow from my express for startup.
