Empty Blank Aluminum box anybody?

Post by Allynmey »

Hi all I just got an e-mail from Mike at Komboking. I asked if he could make me a Empty box. He said he could but it's more work and more expensive. He also said it would be great if we could get 5 made at the same time to cut costs.

The specs are:

19.25" X 7.25" X 2.50"
.125 thick aluminum!
Corner welded brackets.
All sides welded.
Undrilled and Unmachined
I think they will cost $75.00ea.

Anyone interested?

Good. I have 4 now. I'd like to tell Mike he's got ten to do. Anyone else interested in a empty box that someone won't take offense over?

The Komet is obviously still very much in production. The chassis is my design and I'm not o.k. with you guys making copies of it.

Thanks for alerting me to "Komboking", I'd never heard of them.

Mike [komboking] is a great guy,and makes a really good chassis.. his chassis that i know of are blank chassis, and you'd have to do the punching or drilling yourself. I've used a few of them for builds myself, my first proto type 36 watter was built on his chassis.

Komboking makes empty blank boxes. There are no holes or machining.
I didn't know that making an empty box for whatever the resulting project is infringing on a design.

Well out of respect, let's just call it a empty box project. And for the record....

1. they (mine) are not for sale.
2. are for my own personal use.
3. I will promise to TRY not to rant.
4. I would not personally spend $3500.00 for a Name. No money lost on
me.
5. I hope we don't have another Dr Z or Randall Smith type on our hands.

Well it's on................

I just got a letter from Mike at Komboking. He received what he calls a cease and desist letter from Hogy. Let's look at the facts here:

1. Komboking makes blank aluminum boxes...period.
2. I post about a "comet" "style" chassis and ask if anyone else wants one. My words not anyone elses. Certainly not Mike's (Komboking)
3. Hogy pipes in about his "original" design of an empty, welded box
4. Hogy sends a cease and desist letter to Komboking

I don't think Dr.Z has that kind of balls!

Komboking won't be making any boxes for our project...period!

Why is it that these guys think once they sell an amp it's still theirs? Isn't Hogy the one on the old Trainwreck pages that sat on his high horse while people asked questions about the obsolete TW amps and purposely led people astray about values when asked. The pictures of Francesca showed what a phoney he was!

Try going into business for yourself building amps or anything else for that matter.

Pardon me, I am confused. You have the rights to the dimensions of a bare aluminum amplifier chassis?

Wow! Where can I sign up for THAT!

Could you both please take this somewhere else?

It's a freaking blank aluminum box. It's not a predrilled box, or one with any identifying marks. It's not a circuit, it's not a layout, it's not a list of exact components and values, and it's not an amplifier or even a portion thereof. Those things are touchy subjects and I would be on Hogy's side in an instant if someone were producing anything like that, but that's not the case.

It's a flat sheet of metal with four bends in it, and you are ALL wrong to fight about it.

In other words, you two can have a difference of opinion, but you're getting ugly over the most trite topic possible. Once you've expressed your opinions on the matter, anything else is just petty bickering.

So, please respect the niceness this forum has generated, everyone stop the public sniping, and take the all-out war private.

I've been run out of damned near every amp-forum because of this sort of unpleasantness and I like having this little backwater of polite helpfulness. It reminds me of AX84 when I first decided to learn how guitar amps worked, before riff-raff like me moved in. I learn things here and sometimes contribute ideas so I can feel helpful. I need that small sense of community and I'd prefer it stay that way at least a little while longer.

Hi All,
Thought I would add my .02 on this subject,I've been around here since the yahoo day's. I have recived more helpful info here than any other amp building site on the net.

I think Hogy needs to explain himself alittle bit here, A metal box with no hole pattern or face plate with no logo is in no way HIS design. Lets just get that out of the way.

If that is true, Fender could have sued alot of people a long time ago

I feel the same way as Allyen,I would not spend the kind of money he get's for one of his amps.

As long as it doesn't say komet(tm) on it he should be able to build it.

Thanks !!!!
Chris

P.s any of my forum bros gonna be in Buffalo at the Musicians flea Market today?????? I will be at a table on the back wall with some small amps to sell, stop by and say Hello!!!
