Cathode biased EL34's

Post by dobbhill »

Has anyone tried this? What would be an appropriate cathode resistor to start with in this circuit? The 6V6's have no dynamics/headroom, and the EL34's are too loud. I thought I might try cathode biasing as a compromise.
Your thoughts and experience are appreciated.

I just made a great sounding EL-34 based Champ. It is Cathode biased and I started with 470 Ohm and ended up with about 570 Ohm. Sounds fantastic. El-34 and el-84's IMHO are the best sounding tubes!
