sonic differences
OK I'm guessing that the Liverpool is very AC30. I've heard the Express clips & it sounds very high gain but tight. What is the Rocket like. I've been in awe of the Trainwreck mystic for a long time & am dying to find out more & build another amp.

Actually the Rocket is the most AC30 like. The Liverpool and the Express are essentially the same preamp stages with different power stages. The Rocket is directly evolved from the AC30 circuit.
Tonal Nirvan
The liverpool was voiced more for the extraction of tone out of a strat . max tone . Kenny loves a great old super reverb and strat . He took an as the crow flys approach bypassing flaws , weaknesses and compromises . The 84's have a bit more gain overall . You know how he loves to make the transition of power amp distortin to pre amp distortion such as the lead tone to dialed down pristine clean on the twist of the volume . So this is a specialized approach , think brian may crazy lil thing called love solo meets lenny or riviera paridise .
The express was the progression of all the guys that were playing metal in the "metal years" . He hated the compressed modded marshall tones that were all over or the guys wanting the vh1 tone . so he also responded to all the feeble attempts to get it right . you gotta understand how many problems he would solve or fix for musicians . You bring in an amp with problems and it would be returned with the best voice you could imagine . he had to be able to listen to a request and respond with a voice . he could paint on the canvas , electronic parts were the paint . The Plexi years were ironed out and interpreted to the best of the plexi voices . It could do a great rythm and lead tone , quietly with more emphasis on the change of a guitar or strings or style .
The rocket was the swan song approach to what he wanted a vox to be. his own personal iterpretation for himself . The trem-rocket actually . You will never hear this tone . Its in the amp on the bench in front of Ken when one of his favorite players is plugged in and he is sitting with his eyes closed listening . That is our Nirvana .
