Changed the caps in Medusa

Post by Legin »

I just ripped the 150 caps out of Medusa with the aim of changing them for ODs and found I had used them in another build and I did not have the right values. So, instead of putting the Mallorys back I decided to put in all the caps out of a Hammond AO35 I pulled to pieces for a CG clone. All I can say is WOW! It has gone from fantastic to sublime, it has a completely new sound with an incredible sustain and almost a reverb quality depth. I really have to get a case built for this one, it has some serious mojo. I am going to try and get hold of a couple of 4 X 12" cabs to try this with, it'll sound HUGE.

Yea, Nigel - what kind? Pics?

I'm getting ready to collect parts - I just ordered my trannies from Chris. I want to be sure to get the right stuff. I'll probably start with ODs and carbon films in the signal path, unless you (all) can make other recommendations.

I'll get some pictures today, the Hammond caps are like fat discs, I guess they date from the late 50's early 60's, I choose not to use the electrolytics but I might give those a try sometime the only value I didn't have was the .1uF so I have left those as Mallorys for the moment the .02uF and .002uF are now all Hammonds.
