Red!
It's got to be red!
Everybody knows that red sounds better, but only in one direction.

Don't overthink it. Just drink it.
Re: Dave Funk's Tube Amp School
I appreciate the lively discussion and hope no feelings are hurt.
About the magic power cord: I would love to see the theory on that one. I am still trying to decide if Mercury trannies are hype or not. I did make up my mind on reverse wired speaker cables though. I can hear a difference, but then the theory on why is also reasonable. Other than wire guage, I can think of nothing you could do to a power cable to make your amp sound better given that before any amplification takes place the AC power has been isolated by the secondary windings, filtered into DC by the caps and choke, and metered out by your vacuum tubes.

I just published a white paper on a new bi-directional GREEN wire that will kick the shit out of your red wire any day. It's constructed out of 100% fact-free, oxygen free, superconducting unobtainium. If you insert it into your posterior cavity it will turn you into a sexual tyrannosaurus.Structo wrote:Red!

You know Barry, I have never had a problem with you even when you flipped out on Brandon, but this is just nonsense. What have you EVER contributed to this site besides a bad attitude? Your treatment of Dave Funk from the first post in this thread is childish and now your panties are in a bunch and you're going to leave the forum AGAIN! Grow up dude!bnwitt wrote:Oh come now Allyn. If he wasn't a friend of yours (or someone who has a perceived value to you) we wouldn't be having this discussion. A total stranger who lurked for a year and then made a first post to sell something would have been toasted as always. But he's your buddy so I'm rude huh? I think I'll just take my honesty somewhere else sport. You stopped sharing information in here a long time ago anyway. I guess business is good. Adios fellows.Allynmey wrote:Please keep the comments civil. In my circles, and many others, Dave is a respected amp tech and beyond. I for one, appreciate him contributing to the site. I think he was treated rudely when he first posted. My apologies Dave.

could it just be a cable of Litz wire? I know that sort of stuff gets used in higher end electronic equipment.

IIRC, the mfg.'s site makes reference to a patent issued, but provides no patent # or link to access it. I like to read those things.soma_hero wrote:could it just be a cable of Litz wire? I know that sort of stuff gets used in higher end electronic equipment.

Layouts and lots of assistance to folks with amp problems have been my contributions. By now I would have contributed a lot more if everyone in here who has a little success selling these clones didn't immediately go CIA secretive about information. I've seen this time and time again. A forum starts up on a particular type of amp and everyone is sharing information with everyone else, then a few guys start making some money selling the clones and all of a sudden they clam up and stop sharing thinking they are going to get rich in the amp business as long as no one else has the info.HeeBGB wrote: What have you EVER contributed to this site besides a bad attitude?
It happened on 18 Watt and it's happened here too. And this site is the absolute worst for behind the scenes communications between the chosen few. Don't ask me how I know that. I gave Brandon crap because he was at one point promising to send me photos and info on the Dumble layout so I could do a drawing to share with everyone. Then he changed his mind. His prerogative I guess, but to me it was a promise broken. Neither one of us is holding a grudge to my knowledge.
As far as my giving your buddy Dave Funk crap, I think that making one's first post after lurking for a year in a forum a sales pitch post will get you lambasted pretty much anywhere. But once again, the behind the scenes friendships changes the rules in here. I seem to remember the Komet guys getting toasted big time in here but they weren’t part of the in crowd now were they? So bottom line is if the in crowd agrees with you it’s “Yeah what he said.” But if they don’t, its hey asshole grow up. You have a fine day now HeeBGB. And your welcome for those free tubes buddy.

Re: Dave Funk's Tube Amp School
You know Barry, You're a jackass. You recieved a free speaker for those tubes. As a matter of fact the tubes we're in response for the speaker which I sent no strings attached. Also, Dave Funk is NOT my buddy. As a matter of fact I have never had any interaction with him at all. My comment was in response to your child like actions on this forum. If you can't be an adult then by all means take your ball and go home. And that Asteroid layout you did....was given to you by Allyn.
Let's see ..... You got mad at 18watt and left, You got mad at Brandon and left here once before and now you're mad AGAIN and threatened to leave. See a pattern?
And I am having a nice day Thank You.....now grow up!

Re: Dave Funk's Tube Amp School
Your right again. After building Trainwrecks for Ken 10 years ago I lurked here so I could steal your stuff. You make no sense. I wasn't even reading this page. I just thought a group of guys who want to build amps might appreciate knowing about an opportunnity to LEARN. I asked the forum's moderator for permission to post a NOTICE about a school that many of the readers here would like to know about (informational post) and because YOU don't like it, somehow that breaks YOUR rules? The ones in your head? You are badly out of balance, my friend. If you don't like this thread, why are you still here? To call me names? That's not very polite. Take a hint and don't come to my school. You won't be learning anything.bnwitt wrote:I think that making one's first post after lurking for a year in a forum a sales pitch post will get you lambasted pretty much anywhere.

I already pointed you to the webpage with a white paper explaining how the wire works. Now it's your turn to make the effort and read it.Tonegeek wrote:I would love to see the theory on that one. I am still trying to decide if Mercury trannies are hype or not.
I like Mercury transformers. I think they are second right behind Partridge.
Ken didn't like Mercury transformers.

Re: Dave Funk's Tube Amp School
Not true. I was booted off of 18 watt for a heated political discussion with a swedish fellow who was bashing America. I didn't leave on my own accord. And let me just point out the fact here that Mr. Funk in this thread has viciously attacked Gerald Weber whom I happen to have a very positive relationship with. No one has said a word about that have they. Now for some reason I'm the only sob in here is supposedly rude though. I'm a Jackass huh. Up yours buddy.HeeBGB wrote:Let's see ..... And if you'd like your frickin' speaker back its still sitting on the shelf in my shop unused, I'll send it to ya.
And to you Mr. Funk, you have called Gerald Weber a thief and a pig and celebrated his current illness. You sir are a slug.

Re: Dave Funk's Tube Amp School
I can't believe there is six pages of this fighting still going on.
You guys should get back to answering all my stupid questions so I can get my amps built.
I was registered to go to Bruce Egnator's amp class but missed out on that the end of last summer. I think any amp school will be a success because there is now more than ever people wanting to learn all they can about building tube amps.
I have no side in this matter because all of you guys have helped me out countless times. I try to help out the new guys here that have way less experience then I do. Which I think is helping out in my own small way.
