Chasis Revisited

Post by gearhead »

Has anyone ordered/received an express chasis recently? Did a search and found quite a bit of good info, with Ceriatone one of the more interesting suppliers.

Does anyone have a listing of the exact holes for each component? The files section has a great drill guide, but not hole sizes. Most I can figure out cause they're so common (pots, jacks, switches), but others I haven't a clue (socket bolt holes, p. light, board mounting holes).

Let your hardware dictate your hole size. If you are using nuts and bolts it's not that big a deal: make the hole big enough for the bolt then tighten the nut (I use lock washers whenever I can so the bolts won't back out). But if you are using self-tapping screws, you have to have a pretty tight hole.

I use a set of knockout punches sized at 3/4 (9-pin tube sockets) and 1 1/8 (octal sockets) for the big holes; sometimes I sub a step bit for the 3/4" size.

Hole placement is not as important here as the lead dress; don't overthink this. Use the template for hole placement and you will be OK.

Thanks for the reply. I hadn't thought about hardware as a gap filler, but you're right.

Am trying to get a pre-drilled chasis so I have to only do unplanned drilling/punching (except probably the transformers).

I know that Omar sent Nik (Ceriatone) a drawing, but it was for a slightly smaller chasis (than the original Twreck). I think some others got chasis from Nik that were done from the drill guide in the files, but some holes were off a bit??

My Ceriatone chassis have all been great. It's best to just get the front panel, rear panel and tube socket holes stamped and drill the rest to fit, heck it's such a small amount of drilling you could probably use a hand drill.
