Re: Rocket Build "Maxine" cabinet finished
[quote="sst4270"]Here's some photos of the inside my Rocket build. This thing sounds amazing. Very clean and jangly up to about 12:00 as Allyn stated. Dead quiet at idle. I'm using a set of NOS Russian military 6Pi14Pi-EB's in it, and they sound great. I haven't tried any EL84's yet to compare.
Gorgeous build!
I would like to ask a simple question
Some folks wind the shite out of their heater wires supposedly to cancel hum and other noise
Then I see this build and also Allynmey's IIRC and they just use a few elegant loops for the heaters.
Is the tight twist a myth?

I think the hum rejection comes with the wires just being parallel and close together. Twisting them ensures that this will happen, but I don't think they necessarily need to be wound so tight.
Re: Rocket Build "Maxine" cabinet ++ clips added final
Now the MOST important decision...what knobs to put on it!
Great build! nice cab!!!

Hum rejection
Agreed. Twisting a pair of ac heater wires together helps with hum rejection, but mostly just looks neat. Keeping them parallel and keeping signal wires away from them is more important IMO.
Take a look at this shot (below) of a Soldano SLO100.
Notice the solid un-insulated heater wires running straight and parallel along the pre-amp tubes. They follow to the power amp tubes as well.
Also notice all the signal wires are run as far away from the bare heater wires as well.
Regarding knobs... because the pots are spaced so close it kind of limits the choices. I plan to use the standard "TW" style knobs.
Thanks for all the compliments! I posted this amp for sale in that section of this forum if anyone is interested PM me.

Clips Rocket vs Liverpool build
1st of all.... Wow I love the Rocket.
2nd I'm not a lead player so I enlisted the help of a friend Mike McHenry for these clips.
Mike played a Telecaster for all these clips.
The recordings were made with an Audio-techinca Pro 24 stereo mic >> M-Audio microtrack recording in WAV format. Mic was set about 2' from the cabinets. Other than editing out some quiet passages I didn't perform any post processing. This is about as raw a recording as it gets.
I built a Liverpool for Mike last year so this was an opportunity to get a head to head comparison.
Enjoy the clips!!

More Clips
Now into 2-12's....
Edit: As I went back and listened to the clips in greater detail I noticed that because the 2-12 cabinets were so much louder than the 2-10 cab I had to adjust the recording level. So the beginings of these clips have some digital distortion due to the input peaking until I could get the levels right and I had to back the mic away a little from the cabinet as well.
Enjoy.

And finally
Finally Mike had to get his pedal board out... With a great deal of enthusiasm I should add.
This should provide a really good example of how well the Rocket takes pedals. Notice how quiet the background is even with the pedals. The little bit of hum is from his Tele. It needs a good servicing.

Man, that's a sweet-sounding little amp you have there, Steve.

Both those amps sound great!
And nice job of putting them together as well.
Not sure if this has been said, well I'm sure it's been mentioned somewhere in the wreck pages but I wander over here from the Dumble section from time to time.
How is the cap stack secured to the chassis?
I see the silicone in between the caps, do you use this to also glue the whole cap stack to the chassis floor?
Thanks

Re: Rocket Build "Maxine" cabinet ++ clips added final
sst4270,
Those clips sound good but I think you owe it to yourself to try a 47pF bright cap and also try no bright cap. It really depends on the volume setting you'll typically play the amp but imo at low volume settings (like 9:00 on a Rocket) the 100pF bright cap is too much and makes the top end a tad brittle when clean and a tad fizzy with pedals. Even with no bright cap the amp still has plenty sparkle/spank/twang/pop. I have a 3-position switch in mine (47pF-OFF-100pF) and I almost never use the 100pF setting.
Man...I soooo want a Tele.

Early brewers were primarily women, mostly because it was deemed a woman's job. Mesopotamian men, of some 3,800 years ago, were obviously complete assclowns and had yet to realize the pleasure of brewing beer.
