Best quality/price components to use on TWreck...

Post by BlueDragon »

I´m making a BOM to make a twreck in a near future , so , i have a few questions ...
Mallory electrolytic caps like the originals are hard to find and very expensive in Europe , what about Atom , F&T or Nichicon ? I use them in other amps , what do "experts" think on using them on a twreck ?
Mallory´s 150 are ok but anyone tried with Orange Drops , Illinois or Solen ?
What type of resistors ? Metal film ? Carbon compound ? Carbon film ? ...

Thanks !

PS: Sorry my English ....

Hi BlueDragon,

I used Atoms in my wreck clone and they sound good to me and my tone snob friends. As for signal caps I used sozos (sozo amplification), I have heard one other clone with Mallory 150's in it and it sounded good. Two Rock Ruby amps which are based on an express have orange drops in them. I don't have any info on illinois or the solens. As for resistors, I don't think you can go wrong sticking with modern metal film types with a 1% tolerance. I understand from those in the know that Ken F. always used the highest quality components he could get in his amps. Hope this helps...
Eric
