Wire Opinions

Post by tubeampguy »

I was wondering what is the best source for Teflon coated wire? I want to use solid core, also what gauges does everyone use? As far a shielded wire I am going to use George L., Any opinions? Thanks

I bought mine from www.apexjr.com Very good price and the quality seems good.
However it is a pain to cut teflon coated wire with just normal wire strippers.....or is it just my lousy wire strippers. It appears you can buy special heated cutters that basically burn the teflon!! but they are expensive and there has been a lot of exposure about the health risks of melted/burnt teflon. Some sources say it can lead to a nasty cough and more.
Personally I feel the cloth covered single core is the best and easiest solution.
cheers

I'm a big fan of teflon coated wire. The thing that drove me crazy when I built my plexi clone from Metro amps is the PVC wire would melt when you applied too much heat (which it didn't take much) or if you accidently bumped up it with the iron.

I have tried to order solid core teflon from Apex Jr but he always has stranded. Mouser offers teflon coated by Beldon but it is also stranded. I use would recommend ebay for solid core.
