Martin, glad you like the tone. Our music isnt for everyone. There is quite a bit of music out there i CANNOT stand myself.
BcMatt and Structo,
Here is a bit of the story on the amp...
I did not build this amp. I don't solder anything. I mess with tubes though!! Just learned about NOS tubes the other day.
This was the builders 1st attempt at a trainwreck circuit. He used boards from radio shack and bent the chassi himseld out of a peice of sheet metal.
It sounds amazing but would look horrible to you guys I'm sure. Personally, I think its beautiful inside and out. I'll have to post some gut shots for you guys.
No Choke.
No grid blocker.
This liverpool has Heyboer Tranny's.
Holland Hammond EL84's (which the builder put in from an old 61 hammond)
The pre-amp tubes in the video's are not there anymore...the video's were before i knew what i had and are as follows...
V1 Hammond 12ax7a
V2 New Groove tube
V3 Blank Chinese Trash
Josh from Tejas Tubes and Fishy from this forum explained the whole
"NOS tube" thing to me last week when i needed to replace the hammond due to it seeming to go microphonic on me...
Here is what i gigged with Saturday night...
V1 Tungsram 12ax7a(from Tejas Tubes)
V2 GE Electric 12ax7a
V3 Mullard 12ax7a
THE AMP SLAYS EVEN MORE NOW!!! It was our debut show at our 1st club and we rocked the house.
Other stuff...
Our record should be done in the next few months. We are about 4 months old now.
I've never played an express. I don't think I would care for it. I'll have to try it sometime to make sure.
We started with NO bass player for the 1st month while i wrote some songs. I found I get to add a bit more vocally with a bass thundering behind me. I get to lay off the guitar whenever i feel like it and slowly bring it back in to build up. Also, I cant solo the same with out a melody in the rythem section from the bass. The songs without the guitar solo's could have NO bass player and be fine. Don't worry, were not firing Bob!
By the way, I LOVE THE BLACK KEYS! Saw them last week in Aneheim, CA.
Did not think this thread would come back to life. Glad it did!
Thanks to everyone for listening. Hopefully we'll be in a city near you soon.
Please forward us to your friends if you could! I'll post the two links below.
Cheers,
Tyler
