A couple of things

Post by bnwitt »

The first thing I would do is check every single ground connection from the layout. In my early amping days I forgot a board ground connection and got the same result.

The next thing to do is take your MM on RX1 and check the dc resistance of your speaker cab at the plug that goes to the amp output. I had a shorted speaker cable once that did this too.

Next I would make darn sure that every tube's heater is glowing.

If none of that brings sound, you might consider making yourself a listening amp like on Doug Hoffman's site:

http://www.hoffmanamps.com/Hoffman/tools.htm

With that and a signal injector (even a CD player at proper output levels will do) you can see where you are losing the signal.

I think you have been given some good advice here.

I would have a good look at your output transformer wiring. I had a amp to fix about two months ago where someone had tried to put a new output jack in the amp. The result was that there was no sound and the output valves would go cherry red.

My advice is check everything again, and if possible get a friend to check it as they may see something that you have overlooked.
Yours Sincerely
