traynor a good platform for a twreck/komet style amp?

Post by erigm »

I have a Traynor YRM (Reverb Master) that I got for $100. It all works except the tremolo. It sounds OK, but I think I can do better. I have been thinking of gutting it and starting over. What to build though? I have wanted a twreck type amp for along time, but never thought I had a good platform, and never wanted to spend a lot on an accurate clone. Do you guys think this would make a good platform to make a twreck clone? The schematic shows about 420V on the plates, but I haven't measured it yet. There is plenty of space and the trannies are more than robust. I'm just not sure if they would work well in this situation ... although they do have a fenderish pre with EL34 power right now. Anyway, let me know your opinions or concerns. Thanks!!!

I believe that Matt Taylor used a Traynor as a chassis for his Express amp, perhaps Matt will chime in and show you a few photo's of his build?
