I am far from the expert on this but I have heard they were. And I heard Ken endorsed the Bloodhound as the closest amp to be had to his Trainwreck. I also recall hearing that George had worked with Ken for a short while. Not positive on that..im sure others here know more in depth on the relationship.

Well I dont know George at all and never spoke to him or owned one of his amps --though one I did hear was very nice--, but to be fair ive never heard of him using Ken as a selling point or even mention trainwreck --so the "using his legacy to sell a product" comment might be unfair. For good or bad..Allessandro has been building the same type amps for quite a long time..way before Ken passed. Not trying to defend George..just trying to be fair. From the limited times Ive spoken to Ken, my sense is I couldnt imagine him ever calling someone a pompous idiot..especially someone who shares in his craft. Though I suppose he could think that of him, he did not strike me as the type to publicly share that opinion about someone.

I have read someplace that when Ken had largely stopped building amps he was directing people to Allesandro for an amp of similar build quality...

Guess my attempt at humor didn't quite go through. But imagine these posts:

P1: I hear Lefty and Ken were friends.
P2: I've heard that rumor as well, in fact, I heard Ken say Lefty's breadpan prototype is closest to a wreck as any amp Ken has ever heard.
P1: I heard that as well.
Lefty: Profit!

If GA makes great amps, they should sell themselves, without needing an implied reference to someone no longer around to refute the correlation.

Your two posts seem suspect to me.

I apologize for all previous postings. I am full of piss and vinegar right now, because I have a toothache from hell and my dentist is closed until the eighth of January.

I do object to unsubstantiated hearsay unless someone can provide some sources. Anyone could register a couple of emails and have a conversation with themselves about how Ken thought <insert amp builders name here> was the heir apparent, and Ken wouldn't be around to refute it.

I'll refrain from posting until a time where I don't feel like ripping my head off or someone elses.

Man, that sucks. I can't stand head pain for very long, whether it be ears, teeth or even your standard headache.

Wonder if any of these would help (anyone ever hear of Asafoetida?): http://www.home-remedies-for-you.com/re ... hache.html

George and Ken buds in early 1990s

Post by 57gold »

Own a "Trainwreck" logoed Airbrake made by George under "lisence" from Ken.

Had been on Ken's list for years for any amp he would deliver, Express, Liverpool or Rocket...never happened.

Ken was complimentary about George's work, said George's Bloodhound with 2 EL 34s, three 12AX7s, SS rectified handwired in an aluminum chasis had Express like qualities. Ordered one with his first high end parts, Audio Note foil/oil caps. I know that George sought Ken's input and that George had inquired about assembling TW amps. George also was an authorized repairman for TWs at this time

Others have written that several late TWs were assembled by other and tweaked by Ken. Wouldn't surprise me if GA might have performed some of this type of work.

Within a year of receiving my "Hound Dog" brand "Bloodhound", heard from George that he had stopped working with Ken...somehow the relationship had deteriorated. David Funk in Nashville was Ken's new bud and repairman....then Gerald Webber teamed up w/ Ken for that debacle of a new amp that was supposed to be the new, improve TW....got a call from Gerald as Ken had given him access to the waitlist...GW sounded like a bullsh&tter deluxe so I passed on a $3k project that was apparently a disaster...within months Ken disowned the project saying GW had mutated his design and the amp wasn't a TW.

Fast forward, own Komet 60 #8, KF 50 #3 and a great replica co authored by Allmey and Distortion.

Geoge's amps are now 110% Alessandro...octal preamps and uniquely beautiful circuits, cutting edge parts and options..."tone meister supreme" gear. Recently picked up a used Black'n Tan which may be the sweetest amp on the planet...complex, rich, deep and musical... a warmer, deeper JTM 45 with more 3D....loves pedals, particularly the BJFs...sustains for days (Dean Farley asked if the amp had a built in compressor as his late 50s Jr sang like it never had before).

Read Review

Post by 57gold »

Haven't tried my HD Bloodhound with the 2X12 Avatar with Golds that is too bright with my Allyn/Larry "Express".

Betting that the Golds at 50 watts each make that puppy sparkle as it roars. Wanted to try the Bloodhound with Blues but have an early 1960s smooth tolex covered Vox 2X12 cab w/original vintage Blues, so I passed on the opportunity to fry'em up.

The review is accurate, except I would say that the Bloodhound is as complex as the Express...but the EQ is actually more JTM 45 focused versus the "grind and buzz saw" of the later metal panel amps that the Express one ups.
