JimiB's Output Trannies?

Post by nickt »

Has anyone used the OT's JimiB sold a while ago for their Liverpool?
I bought one but have decided to use Brownnote iron for my D'lite.

Anyway planning a Liverpool as well and keen to know any experiences with Jimi's iron.

Thanks!

I bought the set of Trainwreck trannies from Jimib. They are the same trannys that Moose sells and I have used them in many of the TW builds I have done. They have the dual promarys (6.6k and 5.2k) My Liverpool is one of the best sounding amps I have built and it uses the 5.2k tap.

Thanks Dana but that's not the trannie I've got.

Mine is one of the Heyboer "woden" AC30 OT's.

It has a 3k7 primary and 4R/8R outputs (7K4 and 8R/16R ?)
I recall you commented at the time about the impedance.

The ForSale thread is gone so can't refer back to it.

BTW I'm sure the trannie is fine - I'm just not sure a Liverpool is the right application :?

Nick,
I would recomend that tranny for either a dumble style build - 3.7K primary will be great for 2 - 6L6's and you will have 4, 8, and 16 ohm taps, or I would try it in an AC30 or a rocket style build. Its perfect for 4 -el84's.
The hesitation I would have for the liverpool is the M6 lams. The M6 works great in dumble style stuff - obviously since he used plenty of dynaco stuff - and it works great in AC30's - just listen to a /13 ERT33 or a matchless DC30. Also the rockets had dynaco trannys as well.
P.M. me if you have more questions for me or if I can be of help in any way.

Thanks JB, given what you've said I might try a Liverpool anyway as I can always swap it out later. Only reason is I've already got a Lightning with WestLabs iron I'm converting to 15W Rocket (sometime... soon... ish) Hmmm.... although it would be nice to have a cleanly built rocket a la Paul Ruby's - the lightning was a copy of the boardless PTP matchless (oh never again! )

Thanks for chiming in! :D

cheers
