Eazilyled,
It's really tough to say how much the component differences affected the overall performance of the amp. That was probably less of a factor than was making sure I more-closely followed the layout and wiring. Since this amp is very close to being nothing more than an expensive oscillator, parts and wiring placement play a larger role that does the actual parts themselves. I used Sprague bypass caps in the first build and used Rubycon's in this build. I can't hear any difference. The tone caps in the first build were Mojo Mustards, and I used the original Mallory PCV caps in the current build. To my ear, the PVC caps MIGHT contribute to a slightly smoother tone - maybe less brittle - but that could easily be the differences in the tubes. Since I used Sprague filter caps in the first build, which are a really high-quality filter cap to start with, by using the original Mallory TC series filter caps in this amp I didn't notice any differences in the performance of the amp.
The way an amp sounds is really due to EVERYTHING in the amp, not just a few specific components. Yes, you can alter the sound of an amp by switching components, but on a high-gain monster like an Express, it is more difficult to judge the impact of brands of components. The overall tone of an Express is really complex to start with, and the basic things like speakers, speaker cabinets, transformers and tubes, have more of an impact on the way the amp performs/sounds than does the difference between a brand of cap or resistor. If you're going to build an Express, study the photos of original Express amps posted throughout this forum and try to duplicate the layout and wiring as closely as possible. Some of the wiring needs to float above the chassis, and some needs to be very close to the chassis. Follow basic amp building rules, like not allowing wires to run parallel with other wires, and keep wires that cross each other at 90 degrees. Even then, there's no guarantee the completed amp will work the first time out, but it WILL be much easier to get it working the way you want...

Thanks for the detailed insight Mike.
I am actually getting towards the end of an Express build myself based on a Ceriatone kit. The deviations in parts that I have are Heyboer transformers, BC filter caps and Sozo standard coupling caps.
I have been trying to follow the Francesca lead dress so we'll see how it turns out!

Today, I purchased this amp, as well as the rocket that Mike spoke of on page 1. All I can say is wow. I have never heard such perfection, not to mention, they are stunning to look at also.
