G12M vs G12H30 clips

Post by leadfootdriver »

Both of these speakers are from Avatar. The G12H30 is the 70th Anniversary version and was offered by Avatar as the Helatone 30 which is broken in before shipping. The G12M is the Chinese version and I had them break it in as well. I recorded the clips thu a Rivera SS ISO cab with a Rivera Rockcrusher attenuator on -20.

There's definitely a difference. I think the G12M is sweeter on top and is looser in feel and sound. The G12H30 has a harder tone a feel with a different emphasis on the midrange. Each seems to shine at different levels of distortion. I'll leave it up to you to decide on which one sounds better.

I grabbed the backing tracks from http://www.guitarbackingtrack.com/ so they're not dead on mixwise, but you'll get the idea.

Both sound good, but to my ear, the H30 is a little warmer.

I'm on the road so I've only been able to listen them on the laptop so far and I'll need to get them into a better system before I could say for sure... but my initial thoughts were identical to Steve's above.

I am a g12H fan, even before hearing these clips, but that is what I would say after listening to these clips to, they are tight and fast, great for heavy rock that smacks you in the chest, not what I would go for for clean jangly playing though.
