Re: Original Trainwreck Resistors
Anyone notice that a lot of carbon film types are going out of production. If you check through Mouser, Farnell etc they'll have very few values of CFs of a given make (eg Vishay) but all of the metal films. The only CFs you can find in abundance are the generic types like Xicon. Even on the boutique side there's pretty much only the Takmans in the 1/2-1W range. Even the KOA-Speer CFs are easier to source from a hifi specialist as Kiwame than from the big catalogs. Are CFs going the way of carbon comps?

Re: Original Trainwreck Resistors
That's why I bought a bunch of '60s Draloric CF a while ago when I got the opportunity. Other than my original source, who is now down to mostly "close to standard" values (36K instead of 33K, 1.6K instead of 1.5K, etc.), these old Dralorics seem to have become unobtainium. Nothing on Ebay.
Nice thing about these, if you don't look too close they look like those old Stackpoles in Francesca, and also like Iskras too, as they are beige colored.
Pihers are still available, but prices have just gone nuts.
For an Express, non-magnetic CF, my $0.02 says the Speer/Kiwame green 2W CF are probably the way to go. The Takmans are good resistors, but a bit small, and pink too.
