Re: Cheap Ugly Express - now Emily Express
That amp would look great with a cabinet constructed out of reclaimed barn wood that would show off the chassis somehow.
Re: Cheap Ugly Express - now Emily Express
Thanks gain for all the great comments. Funny thing bout barns....long sad story, so I won't bother but I have a cedar shed, I can pull some strips off.lol
My father in law,who restores jukeboxes, is also a retired master carpenter by trade, would shoot me if I didn't get his help on the cabinet. After I become a grandpa and things settle down, I will be over at my dads place because my wife said I can't do any wood working in the house (I live in the great white North)....peace guys

Emily Express
Well Mark was saying where are all the builds in the "garage talk" forum.
I did build a 15 watt Rocket and a 5e3, they are as ugly as my first express.
the Rocket and the 5e3 builds sound sweet, I love them.
My grand daughter "Emily" was born on St.Patty's day, and guys name their trainwreck builds after women, so I didnt want to have my ugly express named after my grand-daughter, so i ripped it apart and spent some money.
I bought 2 blank Chassis's from a guy in Canada where I live and bought my Pacific PT and OT from RJ.....thanks RJ for giving me a good deal
I had an issue with scratchy pots and had DC on volume and treble.
I narrowed it down with help from you guys and it was the 500pf silver connecting to treble 3 that was the culprit.
Biasing help from Littlewyan
I tried to do the layout like Colossal's and Mark Fowler's but fell a bit short, oh well.....
V1 has an old Mullard from an old jukebox
V2 has an unknown 12ax7
V3 has an old sylvania
the volatges are almost what they are supposed to be, a tad low but not by much, so its ok
I cant really test the amp as my garnddaughter is in the house for another week....
this sound like an awards speech...LOL
My ears hurt, when i was able to crank it a bit for 2 minutes while my wife took Emily ouside to look at the flowers
EDIT: oh i did fix the shielded input wire and neatened up the bright switch and tone wiring....

Re: Cheap Ugly Express - now Emily Express
Thanks for posting the photos I enjoy seeing the builds come together.
Re: Cheap Ugly Express - now Emily Express
thanks Mark.
RJ's transformers he sent me are great. Wow The PT is big.
I'm happy how it turned out, and when I'm on holidays in 3 weeks i'll build the cabinet.
I will look in the files section for the thickness of the faceplate and kind of wood I would use for that

Keep that faceplate on the thin side or you will have to figure out how to get a nut on those pots.
My daughter was born on St. Patrick's day as well.
