1993 Trainwreck Rocket Joni for Sale

With all the resurgence of Rocket builds as of late I thought I'd post it for those of you with DEEP pockets.

As far as I can tell looks like a Stancor OT but does anyone have any info on 'Joni' ?

They either sell, or the seller waits a bit and tries again.

I don't think that's a Stancor. The Stancors usually use the four corners for end bell mounting (Although I saw one on Google that doesn't) and the old A-470s always use the center holes only. I just peeked at one of my Rockets with an A-470 and the spacing between the edge of the top corner and the unused holes matches up to Joni's OT. I'm almost positive it's a Dynaco.

round it off to 40K . Now a sweet flametop Les Paul goes for around 250k. The question is how much of the sound is attributed to the guitar and to the amp . I would speculate just for the sake of numbers to forward my point here ....

amp 75%
guitar 25% loosely for argument sake . Also known is that speakers and pickups and tweaks mean alot too . But this is a raw comparison to show that........

Guitar @250K
Amp @750K

Just numbers guys in relation to the scenario . BUT it does show that we think of an amp as an appliance a friggin toaster .

So when our eyes pop out wide open for some of these prices . Just think of all those vintage guitars that went for megga scratch . Take a similar amount of time to learn how to build a Les Paul , not too far off from learning how to tweak the ultimate amp and this debate goes on .......

Like the guitar is a sexy horse and the amp is a toaster . he he

Ok, back home now. Hm. I see that label is Ken's. On my iphone it only showed 1/2 of it and the label looked yellow. Eh, my bad, Pacific it is.

This is an interesting Rocket amp... I've had a look at the insides and it's different than any of the others that I am familiar with. That is not to say I've seen them all though.

My best guess on this amp is that underneath that cleverly placed Trainwreck sticker you'll find a Dynaco stamp. From the inside you can see that it has newer plastic coated wires so it's not an older one with the cloth wiring like the one in my photo. It's possible that Heyboer made it but from my photo you can see they have a bit of a different look to them. I'm skeptical that Pacific made this OT. It's not impossible but Pacific hasn't tried to hide any tranny info from us and I think they would not only tell but make it available if they had it.

The power tranny is a Pacific and this is an amp that uses an extra 5V rectifier mounted inside the chassis, between the other two transformers. The Stack O Caps' is also a bit different on this amp, using 8 each 20uF instead of the usual array.

Thanks for the infor RJ! Very cool that you've seen the guts of this one in particular. Was the totem pole of caps four on top of four, with three in parallel, two in parallel and then one for each of the following stages? I'm wondering how they all fit, but I'm sure he made it work. I'm assuming they were Mallories, no?

I remember Ken mentioning that the filtering in the Rocket was really more than a GZ34 was designed to handle. Because of that he put original Mullard GZ34s in all his Rockets as that tube could handle it.

Yes, in that case.
