Are Chocolate Drop PVC Capacitors equivalent to Orange Drops

I have found a stash of CDE Mallory PVC series "Chocolate Drop" capacitors... but are they equivalent or even similar to the PVC orange drop capacitors? Finding PVC caps is an accomplishment these days and this stash includes a bunch of PVC601 caps. The only thing I found about them was that they were used in some Fender amps and folks hated them. Does anybody know anything about them?

I used the O.1 browns in my express and it sounds great!!

No complains!! I noticed Ginger have those brown PVC's as well, check the pics!!

Yep, sure enough... I hadn't noticed that on Ginger before. I can get extra if anybody wants them. They are almost $10 each though.

Redshark, that amp pic looks fishy to me. There's no diode strings off the OT taps for one. Plus the 1K 25 watt resistor has newer markings than what were around in the 90's. Are you sure about this? And then metal film bleed resistors?

Rooster, I think the photo attached to Redshark's post is his Express. RJ posted a photo of Ginger.

Hm. Well, Colossal, that pic looks a bit odd, too. It's a Liverpool, right? What are those power caps and did Ken use glue to hold down the wiring like that? And then the front knobs? And the pot on the rear of the chassis? MV?

Will the real Ginger stand up?

There are glued down leads in Ingrid. The pot and jack on the back of Ginger look like a line out.

Do we know or can we assume that Ginger is either the first or among the first of the Trainwreck amps built? It seems like it has the greatest deviation in build technique from the rest of the Wrecks that we are familiar with... in addition to the power supply board it does look like he worked with some different parts than in the later units.

Ginger was the first 'official' TW, but the prototype was a 5Y3 rectified, pair of EL84s. Glen has stated that he remembers seeing brown drops in another Liverpool at one point. If you ask me, Ken was still working out the kinks and hadn't yet gotten to what we know to be the basic Liverpool formula.

Edit: Forgot to mention that the brown drops in Ginger aren't Mallories, but similar brown caps found in Ampegs of the time.
