Schweet!

What did you model the PI stage on??? the normal 4xel84 liverpool with some tweaks?

I tweaked my 18 watter this week and found some settings PI wise i prefer tonally, but i don't know if it is perfect yet... i am still thinking between a t-rex and a liverpool build.

I've got a big mess-of-supplies on order frlom a few places right now... falling off the "no more homebrew amps" wagon BIG TIME!

I stuck with the stock Liverpool PI values, but might have to try warming the bias on the PI a bit to see if it softens things a bit. It should help with the hard clipping some.

Homebrew amps are too much fun for words. Even if it is your own take on a classic.

or you could try the paul ruby "buzz" fix with zeners (voltage depends on your cathode voltage) across the grid load resistors-----been discussed at 18watt a good bit a while ago. paul is a member here i believe and might chime in. rh

It's not really buzzy so to speak, just hard and bright. I am familiar with Paul's buzz fix, but it's not the issue.

yeah well I'd like to hear about it if Paul does chime in. The amp I built for my son has a weird buzz when cleaned up. He insisted on taking it before I was done but I'll get it back and try some more stuff.

cool, given a qiocl glance it is pretty signifigantly different than an 18W..

I'll have to do some heavy rebuilding to see how i like the differences.

I so LOVE hombrew amps, but of course my wife thinks less of them :D

My friend who is a custom guitar builder came by today to use my band saw as his died. I let him play through this amp since he'd hadn't been over in while and his comment was "WOW! It's SOOOO aggressive! Sounds great!"

This baby is living temporarily in the cab I have for my Express build. I need to build a couple of head cabs for few amps. Luckily my garage is become un clogged.

1+ :!:
It's amazing how your perception of an amp changes from the practice room (aka bedroom, basement, closet, garage) to the stage. Without that brightness, no one knows you're there :?
