Hi Guy's,
I'm in the process of tweaking my liverpool clone as I plan to bring it down to Jersey at the end of the month.
I have replaced the 3rd stage for the umteenth time to 68k/ 2-.001 in paralle 1 ceramic 1 film.
I left the (2) 225 series O.D. .022 in the tone stack went back to a mylar 50pf treble cap.
I replaced the rest of the caps in the pre-amp with mallory 150 series.
I found some old rca 7025 for the pre-amp that aren't too noisey,This helped alot.
I also had to resort to more sheilded cable, not only the input but,the volume wiper,3rd stage grid, bright switch to volume.
These changes have helped the amp be more stable.
I haven't got much time on these changes and couldn't crank it much.......I still have the pec 1m volume pots to put in when they arrive.
The bottom line is I made these changes while trying to tune it to my strat through a 2x12 cab.......before there just wasn't enough highend break up, the amp was bright at low volumes but stayed alittle to tight when cranked.
You newbies here have come at the right time as the pictures of Fran should help alot........the layout is most critical, and mine is not right!!!
Thanks
Chris G

Re: tweaking my liverpool clone
Dear Chris
What parts of the layout do you think are most critical in the Liverpool amp?
I found some wires to hardly make any difference at all. I found the wiper of the volume pot to be more sensitive than the input to the first stage.

By the way, the photos I have of Liverpool amps are amazingly similar to the photo's of Francesca. Follow that and you're on the money

I just had a chance to install my pec 1m log/audio pots in my liverpool.I can say the difference is pretty noticeable.........the tone is the same, but you get the sweet spots at different places on the pots rotation.
The biggest change is you don't get clobbered with volume as soon as you crack the volume control.
and with this difference the amp feels less constipated............if that makes any sence.
On to your questions:I think one of the most critical spots in the layout is the bright switch, mine is very noisey.
I also found the Volume pot wiper wire to be very noisey also.
Those 2 spots I belive produce the most noise in my clone.
Mark,I may try and re-wire the pre-amp again, as I look at the pictures of Fran,I see a smaller diameter wire was used, the solid core stuff I used is pretty thick by comparison.
If you have ever have had a fouresent light apart, thats the wire I used, very thick coating on about 18gauge wire.
I found some thermeostat wire that I may try, about the same wire thickness ........but the coating is much thinner.I will keep you posted..
Thanks !
