5v4 in Rocket

Post by njwrecks »

Been using a 5v4 in a Rocket- takes the voltage from 318 to 300 on plates.
3 power caps at 30uf so the reco sees 60uf at first. Has anyone else used a 5V4 for any length of time?
On the TW web page it states you can use a 5V4 - maybe they were referring to NOS tubes and not the new stuff?
thanks all

I suggest looking at the spec, from what I saw a 5V4 should have 10uF cap, I'm inclined to think the Rocket will eat it for breakfast.

There are several options to lower the rail voltage of your amp, one thing to try is to use a Zener diode. The other is to implement some of Merlin Blencowes power supply ideas.

I have been using the 5v4 in my rocket creation for at least 3 years I tryed many rectos the 5v4 is my favorite I am running 60 uf on my first node as well .the current tube is a vintage ge 5v4 but i own 4 vintage 5v4s and the all sound different so like all things roll those tubes, the cool thing is you can get good vintage 5v4s for a reasonable price and it is said that some are actualy misslabeled 5ar4s I look for the ones where the bottle is bigger than the base. cheers
