Is their enough interest in Ken for a film ?

Post by Plexified »

My name is David Scott and some time ago I was involved with writing and producing a documentary on Ken Fischer . His work , his life and his impact on the musical community . Some may not be aware of it but Ken was a huge supporter of local schools and neighborhood kids , aside from his passion for persuing the ultimate tone and that included his wisdom being tested in blind listening exhibits and local friends and families participating in his fun and more importantly tests that took his opinions out of the loop for the sake of skewing the results .
I loved the man and was as hurt as the next person when we lost him . I put my project on the back burner for ever as a result , but recently realized that alot of important information and tribute is ever so important . We lost the Metro Amp Forums recently to a senseless hack . Ten years of such spitirited knowledge lost forever . What a blow to us good guys . Imagine this Amp Garage in flames and gone forever . It really is an awakening .
I started to write this post because the amount of information I have been sitting on and the contacts that are directly a result of Kens hospitality , skill and ever enduring personality. I always got tired of the turmoil surrounding his situations , however , his assistance and willingness with his sense of humor just is so admirable , even in the times we live in today . The Net is chocked full of great souls of spirit and assistance we have it good . Ken really never had a computer or this experience during his health decline . Ken Dubman is a great example as he was and is such an amazing unsung hero in the guitar world . Ken told the editors of Guitar Player some time ago he would set up the guitar rig that would win the Blues Breaker contest for Marshalls buzz on the new contest for the Bluesbreaker . And he did . Ken set up an amazing tone and Ken Dubman ( my favorite guitar player ) just sailed with the master in to port .
I would really like to know if their is an audience for this documentary as I realized the expense during the planning and unfortunately the untimely passing of Kenny . I was faced with the Kendrick smear all over the net and alot of strange posturing aside from the family and their position as I got into commiting some big money to do it . I have all the documentation and contacts , however , is it something that continues to be worth doing , although my own heart has always wanted to see this through ?I love the man and all he has done . It is really a love story when you get down to it . I really just don't want to get into a pissing contest and taint what is . So many artists and techs are so eager to participate , are their enough of us to purchase a cd ?
I was going non profit and having proceeds benefit film schools and schools Ken was participating in helping as he repaired their gear for free and the kids in his neighborhood the same . I wanted to pass it off to the family ( the web site ) as updates came in regarding progress and let them steward the transition , but what is the position on JM and his new offerings ? Really screwed me up talking to the family as I got a call from Kens waiting list ?! Does mamma bring peanut butter and jelly sandwiches as 'a guy' techs on Kens bench with his tools and parts ? It really messed with me . Sad to say . At any rate , I think the project is a lifes work , however , I just do not want to embark and find me and a few hundred blokes were in agreement . This should be an independant film that makes a difference , otherwise , I will participate here and offer my muse .
As a point of interest I sent cameras and gear to the persons involved to start , and arranged recording and jam sessions with the gear to get it totally off the charts . I guess you hear where I am coming from by now . I will peel off and post a new discussion just to be real , because I love this board and have been so recluse in light of the challenges of not only life ,but this most important topic to me, David Scott

Hey David,

You could count me in for a CD/DVD on this topic!

I would love to learn more about Ken's life, work and passions and hear some recordings of his amplifiers.

Hope that this helps in fulfilling your honorable dream!

Cheers,
Dave O.

wow ! that was fast . I feel wierd with the donation part and how that even works if anyone has suggestions , I would appreciate that . I want to keep this open and real , not a stain if you know what I mean . I am revisiting this project after loosing some other web domains I did not think of the consequences of loosing as a result of just laziness and some that were very expensive and just an economic ( stupid in hindsight ) decision . Developing a new web domain for this project is not so hard so to speak . I let one go where I was putting together a challenge to you tube . Was very expensive and thats not to mention one to program the site . This is different for shure in the smaller , yet very potent content . If you all have suggestions as what would be convinient in the process that would help . Some sites are a struggle to navigate and that is definately not what we would want . I can see a cool link to this forum some schematic evolutions and mods through time that Ken did . I had some that had a red paint on the points he worked and changed although I am not sure that was the normal or when that evolution had transpired . Info would always help for sure . I really don't mind PM or a thread about as we all want to share , at least I do and I think its the core of the project . Ken was aware he had a thing . And to just give schematics or descriptions was always just a start . He wanted us all to learn our own way and do what he did . That was to become so proficient we could tell each other what modern parts did what and how . That was his tweak . I called it the deamon tweak . Much like working on cars . Sad side note my dad just told me he sold his Mazda Miata . Yeah , sounds stale . But we put a whole Boss powertrain in that lil Shelby wanna be . Man does that stink . It was lighter with more HP and performance and scared us both more than once ;) guess he wanted to avoid catostrophic stuff , but geez we were so close to PBIR a raceway with a great track and dragstrip . Back to building amps and finding the way to link to the central nervous system ;) David

Awesome , I guess a model 26 with a ten as a Deluxe was what he loved with the octal pre amp tubes and all was his high water mark . He tweaked and tweaked those early champs , broncos and vibro's till he wept . He liked the Marshall tone and persued it through the Fender liniage time and time again although he was tweaking everything on the bench for the person inquiring at the time . It was gravy when good guys that could really played showed up at his bench or shop . Man any person could wait if they wanted and a few minutes later .....boom .. Some guys were a slave to the processand thats when sig stuff went down . Ken Dubman had 6v6 tubes in a plexi and wound up with a sneaky 50 loaded down into a 100 plexi with 6500 tubes ! at one gig I remember the tubes melting , like an implosion , an anomily really . One 6550 sucked itself into tone nirvana while Dubman played . The 50 was then the house show , how sweet it was back in the Birch Hill days . Dave Dipietro had his sweet 69 crashed (Les Paul Custom) to the stage that night and Zach Wylde or Jeff Wylant as we know him was a guest on stage that night . cool stuff for sure . Ken loved the music and was there ! People do not get that . It was not just his tuning room or basement it was live too ! Dubman used the straight cabs , but Ken admitted they were laser like and dug the angle cabs . A single cab and then the PA . He liked a front 57 and a rear 57 or 58 , and he liked to trip out the soundman with a piezo on the soundpost inside if you can imagine it . He was a trip . He glued with epoxy a piezo on the soundpost ! Thump ! it was and is cool . Dubman is just soooo good too , he deserves KF props . His band was prophet and its an early KF tone fore sure . He redcorded with a s70 telecaster if you can believe it . On the Bluesbreaker contest also . Dubman fishes alot these days and has a great life as a guide and gtr monster , wish he would post up . soon maybe , David

Me too. Very interested.
Thank you much for the insight you've already provided.
To me, this site is a tribute, not just to Ken's technical skill, but to him as a good human being.
Thanks again,
Bob

Way kool chaps , here is the plan . I got the guts to revisit this and you all deserve to know more . BTW , Bob rings Zenon to me , another great band that was a good friend of Kens . So I have a small pilot I shopped to Discovery channel and it included the backdrop ; not in the film because it was a hold out , but I live in south Florida and we have an amazing group of schools that harbor the development of kids in film , audio and music . All types of ground is covered , so much so its kind of mind numbing because alot of the Hollywood film firms are investing in our area and with it came ALOT of pro talent and the marriage is amazing . So I visited the schools and told of my project and wanted them to partner with me to allow the kids to get involved in the project . What does this mean ? Imagine these eager young fashion forward kids involved in pre and post production of the project . Here we have some doing interviews , sound production and filming as well as editing and influencing their own generations into this huge world of impact . Almost rediscovering the music and the old school ways of bringing a community together . The website I construct will be active as well , documenting the process and filming it all the way . Its a reality show thats worth watching , participating in and learning from . Its very ground breaking as well as being very massive in scale . The project is like Thor dropping the hammer on earth and the reverberation becomes exponential . This from one man in Colonia New Jersey a block away from my grandma and down the street from where Thomas Edison had his own workshop . Scott , Kens brother doesn't even know this but I wanted to gift him the website to continue to develop and keep alive . Just imagine all the amazing talent and music that came out of Kens love of life , music and great relationships . Its so breathtaking to think of . Since my first inception of this concept alot of the Trainwreck amps were sold to such high profile talent it really is amazing . In the end the story is told through all those that were touched by Ken and produced some of not only the greatest tones imaginable , but the amazing work and music that resulted . WSOU a college radio station from Setan Hall University is a huge sound board in the beginning too , because they would broadcast live events and play alot of the music created by Kens amps in the begining , like the Birch Hill night club . I have a nice story board and template for the work , the missing pieces are what I really hope to find and this board that I have loved for so long can be a great resource to unearth these folks that played a key role in the beginning . It takes music and disects it to a core proponent and when its all said and ongoing the lineage is amazing and exponential in its impact . Its finally a reality show that is worth watching . Forget about keeping up with the Kardashian crap on the tube now . Their are millions of guitar players and music lovers that afford us a niche so to speak that has never been filled . Some recent threads I read from a while ago here had Keith Urban and Brad Paisley mentioned and thats just a recent blip on the screen . John Mayer sold his Trainwreck to Keith Urban and that alone would be such a cool little snippet of music meets the source of inspiration . Glen K talks alot about how he was infuenced by his holy grail of tones so we can get a peek into how alot of musicians really fall in love with a great tone that inspires . That is what this project is about . We lost the lead guitar hero in the modern age to an extent , but this is my way of highlighting that soundtrack of our lives and amplifying it to source of alot of the inspiration . We look at schematics for hours and burn the solder in lust of it . We now know that vibrations are a key component of our modern well being up to and including high end mathmatics where string theory is now challenging quantam physics and other forms of the blackboard theories to merge the final explanation of the very large or space itself and the sub atomic for an understanding that is capable of melding the very large and very small . We are better of because of music , its positive influence and emotional soothing . A visionary is always pushing the envelope and asking questions . When we ask these questions our subconcious is always providing the answers when we have none . So this project is picking up traction and the contagious notion is really spreading . Imagine a first year film student sent on a task of say interviewing Dr Z or Hoge and what they not only take away personally , but how their soundboard or craft impacts others as they learn from the experience . I can't wait for the quality work , including the great recordings of the many 'wrecks' and the talent it inspsired . Hang on gang this is gonna be a cool ride . I have alot on my plate and I can't do it all . So I have an initial challenge to set up the avenues to communicate and document along the way and allow it all to be viewed and followed as the process unfolds . Almost like an ongoing website documenting progress and along the way documenting it on film and quality pro audio so these crafts of love that Ken built can be seen and heard properly . Thanks for the interest , last night I dreamed about this project and the magnitude of it hit me , again , and I really feel small in light of it . But the outreach would make Ken blush and finally a proper light can be cast on such a nice guy from the old school that is gonna impact a new school like he never and I never imagined . Cheers , make a toast this weekend and say a prayer for me , this is gonna be one amazing ride ! David
