Anyone use their Wreck for clean tones?

Post by gnugear »

I was checking out some Dr. Z amps today and really liked the 18 watt combo. I started wondering what my wreck clone might sound like if it were set up for clean ... so I tried it and it was really nice! I had it running into an open back Fender cab with a Jensen P12N. Not much clean headroom but it had a very Fenderish quality that reminded me of the Z amps I just played.

I don't know why I never tried it before. I always turned the gain up and used the volume on my guitar to produce cleans.

Anyone else experiment with the clean tones? I was doing some rockabilly finger pickin with a Gretsch Nashville. :)

I think it's awesome for clean! I do that all the time.

In some interview Fischer once said that he likes to make his amps to have killer clean and distorto sounds. I think he did pretty good.

I use my UniWreck (an Express) with my power trio. as the only guitarist, I have to play lots of rhythym guitar, so clean tones are important. I accomplish it by using my guitar's volume knob and a pseudo mater volume that I built into the amp. The MV is a 1 meg pot which replaced the 1 meg resistor on the leading edge of the PI. Together, I can get some very nice clean tones indeed.

I love my UniWreck.

I had a problem with my amp switcher when I was using my two wreck setup. I went with the express and I almost liked the clean tones better than the rocket, almost! Phil
