Chassis Questions

Post by GainMaster »

What size is the pilot light hole on the Express chassis?
Would it be better to use the original size or the standard Fender pilot light size?

What size is the cord hole?
Would it be better to have an IEC hole?

Are the transformer holes on the layout OK or should I punch pilot holes for the original transformers and let someone punch their own holes for different transformers?

https://tubeamparchive.com/files/Trainwreck_Chassis.pdf

Is there a better layout around than this?

I'm asking because I am getting a batch punched and may sell a few.

Thanks
Brian

Allyn did his right with his chassis leaving the PT and OT drilling up to the end user that way we can use whatever transformers we want just like Trainwreck did.

That's smart, since it also allows the headphone trick for best placement of the transformers at lowest noise level.

Thanks for that. What about the pilot light and IEC hole?

I like the IEC hole myself. And I'd make the pilot light hole the smaller of the options so, like the transformer, the user can choose and drill it out if they wish.

How big is the smaller hole? Thanks

The pilot hole appears to be 3/8" or .375 on my chassis and I checked the pilot light too which is slightly smaller then 3/8".

I like the IEC and if you do that then you will need to shift the fuse holder hole over for IEC cutout room.

Otherwise for more originality leave the cord hole. On one of Allyn's chassis I cut the IEC in on an angle to get it to fit. Gary and DrHurley did this on one of their builds back in 2007 where I got the idea from.

Will 1/4" be enough of a shift to clear the IEC? Thanks
