QUESTION...

Post by PUCKBOY99 »

Hey fellas, I'm new here so excuse me if this has been covered.

I just bought a clone & was wonderring what your experiences might be with the following ref bringing the volume down for home use.

A: Yellowjackets w/EL84s
Weber MASS or other attenuators
Palmer PGA-04

B: Other attenuators
Half power switches
Power scaling

I've got A & am very interested in B. Anyone try any of these & what were the tonal results?

I know tone is subjective & anything you use is gonna alter the tone....just wonderring if one worked better than the others.

Thanks !!!

Hi.

I use a dr.Z airbrake, modded so I can go down to 0 W! (never use 0 W).
In fact I found that the bedroom level even at minimum was too high for my bedroom, so I modded it in order to have a lower volume.
I'm very satisfied with the sound even at this low level.

Before I had a THD but after buying this unit I sold it.

Logically at this very low bedroom level the feeback is reduced and somethimes you can not have it, but the overall sound is very good.

Puck, I'm not a big lover of attenuators but, there is a layout for an airbrake on the site or you can buy one if you go that route.

Thanks Allyn.....

I've got a Weber MASS & it's O.K.

The Yellowjackets are actually cool, but sometimes the circuit doesn't really jive w/EL84s....this might, but we'll see.

The Palmer is actually very cool. I run the amp to the Palmer out to a small mixer w/headphones & use it for the appropriate volume. I haven't tried it as an actual attenuator, but it does it's thing fairly well....maybe add some powered monitors.

But of course, I haven't even received the amp yet & I'm dying to try it full bore thru my Port City Wave 2x12 loaded w/2 G12-65s from the early 80s. :)
