I found my brother playing my Twin Tube EL84 Rocket build with the amp set on the 4 ohm output tap but plugged into his 16 ohm cab. He loved the sound, not for me thank you, but I questioned if the amp would be damged running this way. I've always heard you have to match the tap to the speaker(s) impedance? Yes...

Shouldn't hurt anything.
16 ohm cab is drawing less power on 4 ohm tap. You'll notice it's not as loud as plugged into the proper tap.

I brought my plexi-style build to a friend's house and stupidly had him plug it into his 16-ohm cab. My OT is a Bassman reissue, 2-ohm tap only. Worked great until we cranked it up really loud, then FIZZ POP! Flyback voltage arced through one power tube and burned through the 100R heater balance resistors. Didn't hurt anything else, though, except my pride...
