New big bottled Rocket (reverb)
Here is a peek at a soon to be rolling Rocket reverb. The trim wood on the cabinet is rosewood. The original PT was to big voltage wise so I had to order a new one. The amp has fired up and played and I should have the new one by this weekend

Another nice build !
What value resistor did you use for the power tube catthodes ?
If it's not a trade secret.

Thanks guys. the trim is just edge glued with wood glue: it'll never break. Cathode resistor is 300 ohms. The last one of these I used 360 ohms. I run my B+ in these around 400 volts , perhaps a tad bit higher. There is a magical combination in these things that just beats all I've ever heard.

Very Nice. KT66's??
Where does the reverb tank go mounted on the top of the cab?

In theory, theory is the same as practice. In practice it's different.
Re: New big bottled Rocket (reverb)
Usually 6l6gc's and yes inside top for the tank.

I'm just starting out here but all the parts are in for a modified Rockster with the KT66 output. The Twin Tube Rocket I built is excellent so I'm hoping for more of the same with this build...

Re: New big bottled Rocket (reverb)
My Rocket is based off the Rockster reverb layout from RJ. My B+ runs a tad over 400 volts. A KT66 is a 5881 which is a 6l6gb. You could throw in a pair of 6l6gc's easily

Thanks for the info. So KT66, 6L6 will both work how about EL34s?
I'm starting with the KT66 as I used to have a BBRI that I put them in and liked their sound. Of course that amp had other problems that I was not able to deal with at the time.

Re: New big bottled Rocket (reverb)
EL34's have to have the pin 1 and pin 8 connection made externally. The bias may or may not be different depending on the tube set. I absolutely love the big bottled Sylvania with the twin halo getters in the 6l6gc with the big grey plates. They ring big and clean like a bell but be prepared to open your wallet wide. You can also find them with the Phillips brand as well as Phillips bought out the machines from Sylvania and made them for a while. You can find them from the tube bandits on ebay or...once you know what to look for, you may find someone who doesn't really know what he has on ebay
