Good call about the heaters, I don't suppose it would hurt to try it. Assuming there is a change in tone, the next question that comes to mind is which part of the amp is responsible for the change in tone?

If it is in the pre-amp changing the power supply resistor may deliver the same result?

Right on guys! A separate tranny ought to take care of it in fine shape.

Glad I could help!

It occurred to me a little later that the mains in my old residence was 250vac and the mains in this place is 240vac. Of course the rooms are a different size among other variables, getting to the point, I can't say the amplifiers sound worst for the lower rail voltages. I don't have a basis for comparison so maybe the amplifiers do sound better with a higher rail voltage?

If so it isn't something that's noticeable.
