ultra fast diodes? UF vs. 1N types

Post by arfy »

Sorry if this has been asked before, anyone try using UF4007 instead of 1N4007 diodes in the power supply of their wreck clone? I'm wondering if faster switching would cut a little noise. Do the UF types lose any power? I think I've read that the FREDs and HEXFREDs do.

The UF1007s are virtually identical to the 1N4007 in terms of current capacity, forward voltage drop, etc. They just produce less of a switching spike when they 'turn off.'

I've used them and/or swapped them for regular diodes and I can't hear any difference.

My experience is that they make a diference in hi gain amps.

Hi,
I tried them in my Express clone and the low end began to mush out. Don't know why, though. UF diodes are said to tighten the lows! Noisewise there was no discernable difference.
