NOS 5881's in my Paul Ruby Express

Post by hairyandy »

I recently tried some NOS 5881's in my Paul Ruby Express and they are KILLER! I have tried some old Tung-Sol's and a pair of NOS Mullard 5881's. The Tung-Sol's were great, much more aggressive sounding than the JJ 34's that I had in it originally or the new JJ KT77's that I recently bought. The Mullard 5881's were over the top, absolutely the best tubes that I've had in this thing. They break up earlier than the Tung-Sol's but they still sound much fuller and richer than any tube I've tried yet.

I never really put much stock in the NOS craze but I think I'll have to start spending some more money soon...:)

How could that amp sound *more* aggressive? :D

I miss her, but everytime I plug into Diana, I remember why I only have one amp. Makes everything else pale just a little in comparison.

Gotta hear her with the new tubes. When you coming up for a visit? We're playing at St. Andy's Friday with Billy Talent. Wanna tech?

Who's "we", I thought you guys hung it up? I wish I could but the girl graduates from law school this weekend and I'm gonna be busy as hell.

I am going to come up there this summer to go to Egnater's amp seminar though (or "Amp Camp" as Aly calls it). I'll let you know when I'll be heading your way and maybe we can spend that Friday night drinking it up!

BTW, you're gonna hate that you sold me Marta when you hear her next...

:)
