I've just ordered a Ceriatone Liverpool, and I was wondering about the possibility of building a combo cabinet for the amp plus a 12" speaker.
It seems to me that I can either install the amp upside-down with the controls facing forward and the tubes hanging down, or else install it "on-edge", with the controls facing up and the tubes horizontal.
Hey there,I have built a Ceriatone Liverpool using a Westlabs Matchless output tranny in a small combo cabinet looks like a Matchless lightning combo .I used a Vintage 30 speaker,it really smokes, been gigging with it for months no problems at all.Th chassis is metal and I shielded the bottom,it hangs upside down above the speaker.Cheers Kelvin

So even placing the amp in a head cab on the speaker cab might be a risk? I guess a bit of trial and error is in order

Hmm... food for thought, then. Thanks
In fact, I'm not that bothered whether it's in a combo or not - it's just a bit more practical (you can put the combo on an angled stand, for example).
Hi,
KF used flimsy chassis' and then dampened the area near the preamp tubes with black foamy stuff to prevent vibrations. Maybe part of the design?
Rather interesting aproach BTW...
I have build a Liverpool Clone into my DIY 18W combo. Alnico Bue. This amp has a sturdy chassis. No vibration issues whatsoever. Maybe an Express would have these issues, but I never tried this in an open back cab.
My liverpool is in a head cab which allows me to plug it into either my 2x12 or 4x12 cabs. I tried it thru a 1x12 and really didn't like the sound of the amp, it took the 2x12 to get it moving and it really comes to life thru the 4x12.

That's probably what I'll do - I've got 2 Fane speakers to put into a 2x12.
