half power mods for express

Post by DaveMon »

hi all, I know this subject has been thouroughly discussed here, but I have not seen a definative answer whether anyone has has gotten this mod working on an express build [img:598:533]http://www.ceriatone.com/images/mods/Tw ... -Power.jpg[/img]

I have connected the wire labeled in the layout pic... "from 10K 2W and choke"
to the last of the (4) 9.1 k resistors and the 25W 1K choke resistor ...... is it correct to refer to this value as "B+"?

Anyway, when connected in this fashion, I get no sound output in the "off" positon, and a very poor tone in the "on" position.

I probably need to check that I have the correct type of switch, does this layout pic symbol indicate a DPDT, other type of switch?

Thanks for any help on this

This is a triode/pentode switch, wherein the EL34 pentodes are turned into triodes by connecting the screen grids to the plates (through the screen resistors, which is recommended). Triode mode will sound different; some like it and some don't. The diagram looks to be correct, your normal screen supply node (junction of the 1k and 9k1) is the correct connection, and ya mon, de switch is a DPDT.

I had one on mine and thought it was a great mod. Double check your wiring.
I've got blisters on my fingers!
