Z-wreck / Rocket inpsired low power build starting...

Post by sparrott »

Starting mocking up and drilling the chassis for a low powered rocket-z using russian ECL82's as the power stage and a vintage organ output transformer. Some changes had to made to the phase inverter due to the triode section of the ECL82 being closer to a 12AT7 in gain and current rating.

I have the good fortune of having some local woodworkers build some headshells for me in maple.

Hello,
I built up a ecc82 PP power stage Express too. What changes at the PI you are planing? I have there a Cathodyn classic with 56k Anode. The only change I´ve there is 470 Ohm instead of 1 M. Sounds not bad this animal.

I am just making some tweeks to the LTP, although a cathodyne does sound good in smaller amps. I built a practice amp for my brother in law out of a Hammond A0-44 reverb amp. It used ECL86's with a cathodyne phase splitter and then I repalce the transistor stage with a split load 5654 pentode stage. It was a decent sounding amp, clean at lower volumes, worked well with pedals and had a Route-66' ish breakup sound to it when cranked.
