Hello,
how can I bring my bass pot to more action. It acts only up to 1/4 turn, than nothing. And this minimum bass increase is only audible with low mid as possible. Ok, thats clear, but a little bit more bass I would like.
For the moment its only like: "a little bass on or off".
My couple C to the 2nd stage is 4n7 for the moment. With 2n2 the bass increase is more less.
So shall I try with higher values at this couple C?
Or is this a questione of preamp tubes? I have now only the JJ ecc83s at all three positiones. A powerful and very stable tube. No microphonics at all!
The value of the Bass pot is like in the schematic.
Thank you in advance
Hans-Jörg

Re: Liverpool bass pot effect
Hi Hans
Try changing the value of C4 from .022 to .047 then try 0.1 the whole circuit will be more responsive if you change to treble pot to 250k, go with the capacitor fist.
Cheers Geoff

Re: Liverpool bass pot effect
Hi,
thank you for the tip.
Meanwhile I found out that mytone stack Cs was´nt 0,022 but 0,2µF. So the bass pot had very reduced function. I changed to the right values plus treble C 120p and now I´m on the right way. Every pot react as it should.
This weekend, hopefully, I can start with my Bubinga case. for the Liverpool. Than I will be completly satisfied.
Parallel I´m building a 2 Watt Express with ecc82 PP power stage (cathodyn) for my little 2x8" home practicing combo although I´ll connect it mostly to a 1x12" for better sound (I had there several low power projects in before). But with the 2x8" its rearly close to bedroom level.
Lets see how this will sound with triode power amp.
I build befor the 4.4.0 but I wasnt satisfied therefore I try the pure Express layout.
But at least a "adault" Concorde is waiting to raise like a Phoenix ...
Best

Re: Liverpool bass pot effect
This may sound stupid, but solved my issue with my Rocket's bass pot, which wouldn't function until about 3 o clock, issue last night - does your bass pot have a wire running from one of its legs to ground? Mine did and my buddy and I removed it. The bass pot functions perfectly now. Actually, I feel like that change caused a very large and favorable change to the entire amp's sound.

Yeah, that just sounds like a wiring error on your part. I'm sure the amp sounded better after that!

I didn't build the amp!Gaz wrote:Yeah, that just sounds like a wiring error on your part. I'm sure the amp sounded better after that!

Ahhh, on someone's part then. That's kind of an odd mistake, but it happens to the best of us... just not me

the bass pot connection is part of the so called "Fender Tone Stack", therefore you kill every tone if you turn all stack pots down. To lift the bass ground connection without changing the entire stack changes the whole sound of the amp. If this is in the mean of the builder - I dont know.
BTW I found out, that if you boil the Pot covers to much because of a direct ground bus, this poti , mostly Alphas, dont stand this. When you move on the lugs it might be that they change their behavior. The only possibility is to mess out this ones if the resistance raises, as it should, when you turn.
I had one as mid pot, and it tooks a while to find this error.
