Polyester PVC vs Mallory 150

Post by straycat »

Finished my wreck and have it up and running. Amp is fairly quiet for the amount of gain on tap . Followed Niks layout and gounding scheme for this amp. Going to redo my grounding scheme following rhison suggestions in this thread https://tubeamparchive.com/viewtopic.php?t=1287

I find the amp overly bright as many others have. Would changing the caps from the polyester PVC to the Mallory 150 make any difference?Any other suggestions on making this amp less bright ?

Straycat. are you using Mallory PVC caps or Sprague or other OD's?

The mallory's aren't as bright as the others. They are also the "correct" ones used by KF

I am using the 600 series PVC polyester caps manufactured by CDE/Mallory. I do not care about the correctness of this build . Just looking to improve the tone .

SC, try the Mallory PVC series before you substitute "150's" They are a touch warmer.
