I was also wondering if you were going to use the HT switching 280v to 250v like the Zwreck? That makes a difference in finding a n 18w PT with both secondary values. I don't think it is necessary to have switchable voltage if that helps in your choice.
thanks so much for the push in the right direction. I hadn't really decided if i wanted to do the dual voltages or not. I heard the clips of the real thing and didn't really notice "much" difference. yes there was one, but I wasn't sure if i was going to bother trying to source the trannies.
one other question.... I've also thought about just building the full monty, with just the 1/2 power switch like the Remedy. Any thoughts? I've heard that all it does is switch off the signal to 2 of the power tubes...is that correct?
and can it be done with a cathode biased amp like this? don't wanna go blowin' stuff up... lol
I have built four EL84 power section with 36w/18w switch that works very well. I also used the switch for 280v vs 250v HT so I could also reduce the voltage to the 18w section. This combination works very well. Refer to www.Ceriatone.com and look at the Rockit layout to see how this is done.
Use a 280/250-0-250/280 PT like the Heyboer/Pacific transformers rjguitar www.rjguitars.net and Pacific transformer Allynmey (TAG owner sells) (PM for response).
The OT can be any 4k or 4k3 such as the Heyboer from rjguitar or Triodestores Dynaclone A-470-S.
The choke is lot harder to fine so you may have to have special one built or just use the TW Rocket Hammond 158L choke.
