Curiosity about a 2x6v6 rocket
i'm looking into doing a 20-ish watt rocket with 2x6v6's. Anyone here have a schematic for a power amp they have done this with successfully? I was looking at mark huss' 6v6 plexi and also the 20w pp power amp from the ax84 site. Any problems you guys might see with using either one of those?

Re: Curiosity about a 2x6v6 rocket
Both those are fixed bias power amps, I think the rocket is cathode biased. I have a 2x 6v6 rocket type amp that is cathode biased and I love it! I don’t think . But I don’t think I am getting 20w out of it.
I used 18watt iron for the build but If I did it again I would probably aim for a slightly higher B+ voltage to squeeze out a bit more clean headroom.

The whole fixed bias vs cathode bias was actually another question on my mind as well. As i think about it, i imagine that cathode is probably better for getting some better overdriven tones. Did you just use the 18watt power amp and adapt it for 6v6's? I would probably go for a little higher b+ as well, just so i can squeeze that much more out of it.
Re: Curiosity about a 2x6v6 rocket
Structo posted his layout rework for a 6V6 Rocket search for that.

See if you can find Structo's stuff
I changed quite a few things in the PI and power section , can't remember what as I annoyingly never record these things.
Definitely lower the PI bias resistor to give the 6v6’s more drive

Yep. I found structo's layout and also his modified schemo of the rocket with 2 6v6's. Anyone have any suggestions on what OT primary impedance i should shoot for getting my hands on? I'm most likely going to get the iron from edcor.
Re: Curiosity about a 2x6v6 rocket
The 6K6 OT should work well. Two 6V6 your looking at about 22w amp.
The Express uses either 6V6 or EL34 with stock trannies. The TW PT puts out lower plate voltage then normal for either tube so using the higher output TW 30w transformer makes sense to me. Others may have a different take on this.

Since the octal rocket is my next build here is the link to Structo's thread for anyone reading:

I already have the chassis. Remember when I had to order the 2.5" from brian to get the solens in the x10? Well that old 8x16x2 is now my rocket chassis. I also have extra eyelets and G10 from my X10 order (I ordered 4 amps worth). I also ordered the Rocket passives when I ordered the stuff for the supre FX so I'm just needing the iron, I think.
I am thinking about drilling it all out later this week and building the eyeletboard before leaving for france this weekend. Still debating octal or noval. With octal I might need some different Rs and Cs.
The rocket seems like there's nothiing in there to do, should be easy after that X10 and fitting the FX loop into the supre. Famous last words...right?

All Octal Express is on my *want* list. But I have too many irons in the fire as it is.

I'm looking forward to see what you'll do/with the Rocket. There's plenty of room in the chassis to add overdrive after the cathode follower...
You'll need a mid control too (not joking on that one) and a pair of KT66s as well (check out RJ's 66 Rockster).
Enjoy!
Re: Curiosity about a 2x6v6 rocket
Zippy or a pair of 6550's works out nice too!
I do like the KT66 as well, rj's Rockster is a good example of what maybe more guys should build. Especially when he has a good kit to start with, saves the parts hunt problem.

Re: Curiosity about a 2x6v6 rocket
I haven't seen the rockster yet, about to look it up. But from building the 6v6 version I have already started a build a similar amp to the 6v6 build but with cathode biased KT66's.
