Looking for TW info
I'm thinking about trying my hand at a TW style amp build but I'm uncertain which one.
What is the wattage of the basic three?
Liverpool
Express
Rocket
Any other info you might have or specific posts other than the stickies?

Re: Looking for TW info
Rocket is 30w four EL84 power tubes cathode bias with 5AR4/GZ34 tube rectifier lot of chime like a Vox AC30 but also can get up and spank.
Liverpool circuit is much like the Express; however, is solid state rectified, fixed bias, uses four EL84 power section and is more aggressive then the Rocket but still can go from clean to mean rather nicely. 36w.
Express is either two 6V6 or two EL34 power section your choice, fixed bias, solid state rectified with aggressive attack made to cut through the mix. 22w or 35w conservatively.
I'm sure others will correct me, its the nature of things.
djroge1 if you want or need any help building one let me know I can either email the info or help you find old posts that really explain a lot.
I have gone back to the beginning posts many times when I can to read all the posts. Good stuff posted here.

Thank you so much for the info. I did a few searches before I posted this but there is so much info and so many posts that it takes forever to sift thru to find the basic wattage question.M Fowler wrote:Rocket is 30w four EL84 power tubes cathode bias with 5AR4/GZ34 tube rectifier lot of chime like a Vox AC30 but also can get up and spank.

Re: Looking for TW info
They are all similar wattage although the Express always seems to be the heavy hitter in as far as "loud" goes. There are a few things that help define the three amps. The Express and Liverpool are both high gain amps and have this cool capability to go from clean to mean by rolling the volume knob up on your guitar, yet there is not a huge increase in volume. The Rocket is essentailly the Top-Boost channel from a VOX AC-30 but in a much simpler configuration. Great clean sounds and very sweet crunch to it.
You can look in the Trainwreck Files at the schematics & Layouts to see more of the similarities and differences in each design. Also look up "Trainwreck amp" on youtube and you'll find lots of cool stuff.
Make sure and use "and" between your key words in the search engine, makes a big difference.
Enjoy.

Cliff was just suggesting that you do some more research before you start
asking questions.

The "why don't you try the search function" response is what I've seen so many times in the Dumble section of this forum. Turned me off to that section, to be honest. Especially since there is very little organization over there.
The Trainwreck part of this forum has always been generous and giving, and I've always been amazed at how the most of the knowledgeable are willing to help out the noobs. I hope it stays that way. Anyway, take a look at the trainwreck files section. The build documents are exhaustive, and very very well organized. When you get ready to go, you won't have to spend 3 months sifting through threads to find schematics and layouts.
I've only built the Rocket, but am planning to build a Liverpool. My understanding is that the Express is the best at going from clean to scream with just your guitar volume. It is a high gain amp. The Liverpool is also a high gain amp but doesn't quite do the clean to mean thing quite as well as the Express, though probably better then anything other then an Express. The Rocket is very much like the best AC 30 you've ever heard.
If you plan on using amp overdrive, either the Express or Liverpool will do that for you in spades. If you like to use effects, the Rocket is the ticket.
Search for clips of these amps. There are numerous clips of each. You'll get a good feel for what they do.

Re: Looking for TW info
Since this appears to be a basic and common question, would it make sense to add the information as an entry in the Trainwreck Files?
Having said that, I do not want to make additional work for anyone nor am I qualified to do this work myself.

To elaborate, perhaps a brief description of each model, such as Mark wrote.
Re: Looking for TW info
In January 2008 I asked the same question it's just a common occurrance and I don't have a problem with helping out just like Ron Worley and many others did for me.
As far as the Dumble section that is most organized I have seen in years all the various types of Dumble amps are now categorized with great layouts. Those guys deserve some credit for all that work. The Dumbles are not as easy to follow such as a build guide because they differ so much for each amp and to the user's taste. I think that main thing with those amps is to build any of the models and then tune to taste learning as you go.

As much as I'd like to do the same things for the Dumble section to get it organized like the TW section, it's just a shit-load of work, and I really don't have the time.CapnCrunch wrote:

Maybe if I start doing an ODS or other Dumble, I might start in on it, but not with the work travel schedule I have been on over the past year.
