Allynmey,

How does it compare to the express?

Do you have a layout and schematic? I was looking into building an Express, but I think this would be better serving.

Very intersting indeed....

I am envious of the tools that some people have access to that can make an amp project even more of a personal hands-on building experience. My German grandfather was a tool and die machinist in Cleveland, and my dad always promoted craftsmanship.

When I put an amp together, it's my form of functional art and I see you are an artist too! Great job!!!
Thanks Ron!

Hi Pete, This build was kind of an artsy thing for me. I was smitten with this amp from the first time I saw the pictures. I really don't want to clone somebody elses work to sell, especially since they are in production. I can give you all the help you need if you would like to build one! If you are looking just to buy one, you can call Komet if you've got that kind of cash or, look online for someone selling his cheap. Pretty much will cost the same as a used one though.

probably i'll start making something in October.
Just 2 questions:
- Do you test the sound of your beautifull amp with something different, but high quality... (soldano, rivera,...)? How does it sound compared to these? at the end is it a versatile amp or it has his own sound, but only one?
- If I'll start a project, this will be the 1st amp non master volume, I've a THD power reducer, but do you think i could play at bedroom levels even with volume from 1-3 o'clock? In fact with the other amp, i rise the gain and keep the volume down... and everything works fine (even If sometimes I take off the THD and put the master to 1 or 2)

Hi Castor, go to Kometamps.com and listen to the Komet60 clips. Mine sounds just like that! It has a wide range of sounds. It is however a rock amp. It also takes pedals well!

spare chassis

Post by David Root »

Excellent work! You probably should be in the business, you certainly have the nose and the skills for it.

I'll be happy to take one of those spare chassis off your hands, if there are any left. It's a quality build. Please e-mail me privately and I'll make payment arrangements.

What make are the resistors/ Are they Roedersteins?

Wow Allynmey, I think you've taken cloning to a new stratosphere!! Killer workmanship and attention to detail.
Can I ask where you found the TC80's andTC51's? Everywhere I've checked seems to sell them by the truckload only.
If you have any left, I'd also be interested in one of your chassis.

Somewhere on this site there are some pics of the insides of a real Komet and there is a post in that thread where someone says wow what kind of solder are they using I don't see any flux anywhere, or something like that. Well, there aint' no such thing as fluxless solder and if you look at the Komet pics there are flux spatters and puddles all through the real amp. As an anal retentive amp builder I would say it is very sloppy. Dont' get me wrong, the layout and assembly is top notch, but that last little detail of cleaning away the caustic residue of flux is missed by Komet. Not so with Allyn's amp. This guy is a fanatic for perfection!!! That is one beautiful, clean amp that is ready for the museum. The Komet guys should hire Allyn to make their display model for the Smithsonian. Primo work Allyn, all the way.

Very nice build indeed :) I have one question... Aren't those wires really thin? On my noob build I used really heavy wires and it was a pain in the ass, I was wondering if this is safe, I would like to work with this thin wires too :)

The wires are teflon. You can't melt them with a blowtorch! It is rated at 1000V.

All I really use in builds these days.
