Re: NEW ROCKET CLONE IS BORN
Well maybe not my first post...Geez, my memory is not what it once was.

Phil,
According to Steve, the amp sounds wonderful and has a very unique thing going on! Maybe I can get him to provide some feedback on the amp.

Looks great!
Few questions for you: What transformers did you use? What schematic did you use?

hi everyone
this is my first post, but i've been soaking up information like a sponge for a while. this rocket is the 3rd amp i built for Art with your help. the liverpool and the express turned out great also. this rocket has a heyboer PT based on the moosePT. the choke & OT are standard mercury magnetics AC30. the signal caps are sozo vintage, allen bradley resistors and mallory filter caps. the schematic is the one posted, not the layout. i plan on trying the tubedog smith preamp when the valvo el84's arrive. there will be some sound clips coming from the rocket and liverpool as soon as i can figure out how to post them...

Dear Steve
That is a nice layout!
I'd love to see a few (lot) more photo's of the layout. It looks very much like the way Ken Fischer might have laid a Rocket out.

Re: NEW ROCKET CLONE IS BORN
well i finally got around to trying the tubedog smith rocket and i have to say i prefer it to the original i built that was based on a schematic of a 2 rock. tubedog's version has a lot more gorgeous clean headroom avalable and still plenty of compressed crunch. it sounds like a great vox with some marshall attitude thrown in. the other version i first built off that schematic sounded great, but it was too similare to the liverpool i had already buillt for art, esp. since i built it with an optional tube rectifier. i never use the solid state rectifier position on the standby switch btw. what amazes me about these amps is the way they make the neck pickup sound and feel...very articulate, crunchy, compressed, and never too obese. just a note: i did add the 100pf to the volume and liked it for the chime it added at lower volumes and i kept the power supply as per the original, not the liverpool style. so it is not exactly 100% copy of tubedog smiths version.
