I know they're suppose to replicate vintage greenbacks, but I think they sound a little less stuffy (i.e., more transparent). My rocket sounds stellar through it. You'd think since the rocket is really all the best stuff from an AC30 TB, an open back with celestion blues would be the ticket. The M-75's contradict that stereotype.
Funny you should say that, I've got a stripped-down AC30 Top Boost build (so essentially a Rocket) that I usually run through a pair of Golds in a Vox cabinet. Through a quad of Scumback M75s in a closed-back cabinet it really screams. I must try both cabinets together sometime actually!
You should probably be sitting down when you fire that combination up!
OK, update here. Two speakers arrived today and one was destroyed. Which really wrecked me, no pun intended. I called Music123 and they emailed a UPS call tag. Off I went to the UPS store and sent it back. Eh, it will probably take a week at least. I did have them put a hold on my replacement if they should sell out and they were OK about that. In fact, they were very helpful all around. They did double box the speakers but the EVH box is pretty lame. Without too much effort, a shipper could bend one of these given the right piece of concrete and the right toss. MFr's.
OK, as to the speaker that survived the trip, wow, now I get how they are a different animal. The surround is treated with a dope that is totally different than anything else I have seen from Celestion - its almost invisible. And too, the dust cap is not the typical Kurt Mueller piece. It really seems pretty much broken in right now, right out of the box - eh, don't go there - with the cone and spider being extremely movable.
I will check it out sonically when I have a full 4/12 box but I am feeling good about my speaker choice at this point.
Most people stall out when fixing a mistake that they've made. Why?
There's always been here a general idea that the express amp works better with a 4x12 and prerola speakers.
I think it's obvious that since the express could be bright it is a good match with a dark setting 4x12 cab and older inneficient speakers.
I have been playing mine with an old marshall 2x12 with 2 rola celestion G12-65's with 1777 cones. The combination is not overly bright considering that my LP jr. has the Lollar low wind which is a bright pickup. I have to say that to balance that I only use the 100pf bright switch. If I'm not wrong the G1265 sensitivity rating is 97db which makes it a bit louder than old greenbacks or clones with 96db. Probably a 4x12 with those could be same loud as 2x12 with G1265.
I would love to try a 1x12 with a Weber 100watt ceramic silver bell at 16ohms and prerola doping. That is supposed to be Weber darkest speaker. It maybe could work with a closed back oversized cab and make the amp not as loud.
I have kinda gone against the grain here with my cab (more out of necessity than choice)
I'm having some great results using an open back Vox 2x12 with Private Jack speakers. Its definately not bright, the bass is a tad tubby though. Will be swapping to a closed back pretty soon........

I have one of those in an open back with a G12-75. On certain notes the 75 started buzzing. I wonder if this could have anything to do with the open back. I should add it only buzzes with the volume at half or greater.
I have a vintage 30 boogie recto cab,Very basey and deeper in width that all my standard 2x12 cabs.Im starting my express soon, getting everything from RJ.Im hoping this cab may do ok for starters with my new build. It seems to tame down some of my marshall amps adds nice balance and low end.
Thanks MJC
Are the Celestion G12-65 Heritage 12" / 65 W a good match? I heard people saying good things about them in combination with the jcm 800. Just checking all the options
