Some final thoughts/updates on my Liverpool clone

Post by fzfwyv »

Thought I would update everyone on my Liverpool clone that I was recently asking questions about.

I did do some upgrades to the pots and replaced the Alphas with Clarostat pots. Including the correct value bass (250k) and Presence (25k). It made a noticible difference from the Alpha's that were in there. The old bass pot I had in there was a 1M and the old presence was a 4.7k.

Believe it or not, I got the bass I was looking for with the correct value pot. It's not a huge difference but enough that I am happy where its at now. I may try the 6K tap and I also may try a slightly larger cap .0033 or .004 between the 2nd & 3rd stage because those are easy tweaks but I'm very satisified where the amp is now, tonally.

The presence control was originally wired similar to a Marshall style. Well, I re-wired according to the schematic, put the correct value pot in and it works better than before.

So I guess what I am saying is I have my Liverpool exactly like the schematic and I couldn't be happier. This is a kick ass amp.

Next steps are to order face plates from BNP and a nice cab from Jeff Swanson to match the speaker cab. More pics as I get some of these other items in.

Its just nice to know I have the help I needed on this board and my amp is tweaked to the point that it sounds killer, is quiet as hell, and will be a keeper for a long time!

Glad to hear you got her lined out. Mark Abbott's schematic is right on and we all owe him a debt of gratitude for taking the time to get it right. Congrats on the build and and thanks for your thoughts on the comparison to the Express. Post some pics when you get her in the new cab.
