I've used close to 2000 of the Cliff UK jacks and never had a problem. Sometimes the plug is hard to push in the first few times, but this sorts itself out.

I love Sozo's because reading about them gives me more laughs than any other type of capacitor!

As electronic components go, in terms of entertainment value, they're right up there with the cathode-ray tube! :D

Theres a million things it can be. Well, not quite! It should be relatively easy to diagnose the problem. I'd take the advise in the above post and check with a multimeter and also visually before you plug the amplifier in again. The question is, if the B+ shorted to the chassis, why didn't a fuse ...

Hammond have been manufacturing transformers for a very long time, and if they haven't figured it out by now, they never will.

They used to have rather strange secondaries, but I think they have recently started making models aimed more specifically at the guitar amplifier market.

Yes, I really enjoyed making the 30/6 model amplifiers. The unbridled greed of the owners spoiled it though.

I always check earth continuity, mains wiring and that the correct fuses are fitted however trivial and un-connected the repair is (eg: loose input jack). The last thing you want is for an amp with a potentially dangerous fault to pass through your hands un-noticed because the problem wasn't where t...

It looks like you'd have to be careful about the exact type of switch you use for this application.

A Make-Before-Break will put a momentary short across the transformer secondary (Give or take a diode).
